For those of you w/yorkies w/LP! I am just curious, what were the first signs of LP in your little babies? The reason for asking is because yesterday Autumn was playing w/my pug Dakota and she let out a yelp, came running over w/her back right leg off the ground but very stiff and straight, it took her some time to walk it out and then she was fine until this evening when the same thing happened. I am feeling a little concerned. She seems fine and jumped up on the couch w/know problems at all. What were the first signs that you guys noticed? |
LP :( My senior has had it now for a few years. It started with his walk being off. He wasn't what I would call limping but he was also not being very steady on his hind legs when I stood him on them while rinsing him off during a bath. He only has it in one of his legs so far and sometimes the joint pops out of place and then he cries terribly. I then pop it back in place by slowly rotating the affected hind leg. Let your vet show you how to do it! LP can later lead to arthritis as well. I give him Glucosamine. That will help stage 1 and 2 LP. State 3 and 4 will need surgery. If your dog got it when he was older and if it pops out only sometimes than it's probably stage 1. Hope this helps ;) |
Reagan walked funny, she wasn't limping she walked bow-legged. But with all that hair it was really hard for us to tell, besides that she had always done it and with both legs so it wasn't anything new to us. The major thing is when you would pick her up sometimes and be carrying her you could feel her legs pop. It made me cringe everytime. But again she never had any limping as a matter of fact she never acted like it bothered her in any way. I wonder if yours maybe just pulled something playing. One time Reagan was out playing with a dog and the dog kinda tackled her and she kinda acted the same way. She yelped then and every now and then later on if she did something that would put a little bit more work into that leg she would whine. She only did it a few times and it only lasted a couple days. Looking back it could've been her LP but I don't think so and if it was this was the only time she ever acted this way with it. If she can walk on it I would give it a week or so and see if it goes away. If it does I would think it was something more along the lines of a pulled muscle or just sore leg. |
