Diarrhea for a few dyas now... :confused: Tia has had the runs on and off (but mostly on) for a few days now. It's really smelly, rather liquidy, and I'm not sure what to do. A friend suggested that I feed her boiled rice and chicken to firm her stools....but I'm more interested in knowing how she became this way and how to stop it. She is active, eats regularly (with a couple of bouts of finicky-ness!)..she's on Canidae. We went to the dog park a couple of times. Once she got curious about a pond and got close enough to sniff it. I pulled on her lead (gently but firmly) and she lost her footing and got part of her face wet. Do you think she may have got some disease or parasite from licking her face that had dirty water on it? I did a search on Giardia...but I'm not sure if this is it. I'll probably bring her to the vet on Monday if the diarrhea continues this weekend. How would a vet check for giardia? or for whatever else she may have? Sorry for all the questions...her regular vets office isn't open until monday. Except for the runs, she's ok, so I'm not sure how concerned I should be. |
The vet will do a fecal test to check for the giardia. U can give her canned pumpkin to firm up her stool. Giardia is a nasty parasite that is hard to get rid of. If u have other dogs I would prob get them tested too if she tests positive. Try to clean her butt and feet with baby wipes each time after she goes #2, until u can see the vet. Hope your baby feels better :) u can pm me with question as we battled the nasty giardia already :) |
Hope Tia feels better real soon!!! Don't have a whole lot of answers for ya though, sorry... But i have heard the chicken and rice is good for them when they get belly aches. Make sure she gets enough water, for dehydration. But as long as she's not acting sick, I hope it will pass (literally). |
This sounds like Giardia - this is what Marcel is being treated for - such a pernicious little bug. Watch her closely bc giardia can turn severe kind of quickly if your baby is a puppy - it can actually kill puppies if left untreated. Bring a stool sample w/ you to the vet - that way, they won't have to put the "swipe" inside her to get one, which is painful bc her bottom is probably quite sensitive if she's been having diarrhea. |
