Heartworm/Flea/Tick Preventative I've always had my girl on Heartguard & Frontline Plus. Since I got my new little munchkin my vet has since got in Revolution. I tried to give Jersey (munchkin) a heartguard pill and she wouldnt eat it at all regardless if i mixed it with food or what. They recommended Revolution becasue it's an all in one basically. But after doing more reading, to me Revolution doesnt cover half of what Frontline does and the hearworm doesnt protect as well as the Heartguard (TriHeart) does. It would be great to just use one medication but I dont feel that good about it. Should I give the Revolution a try or should I stay with my gut and stick with the Frontline & Heartguard? Thanks! |
I don't have answers for you but wanted to bump this up for you :) I use heart gaurd and FrontLine Plus. 2 seperate meds. I'm always scared to change if something is working, especially with these little buggers being so sensitive. |
Get heartguard in pill form. I use Frontlinen Plus and Heartguard pills. I cover the pills in cheese and give it to my two as treats. They never know. Mine would eat the chewable kind. |
I have been using revolution on my dogs for years. I have always been very pleased with the results and it is so much easier to give to them. Mine hate the heartguard, you can mix it in with food, wrap it in cheese and everything else and they still know what it is and won't take it. The revolution is so much easier and we have never in the years of using it had any problems with it. |
We used revolution too and never had any problems :) What I like about it is that they have different doses for different sizes. Some of the others are up to 25lbs, and I do not feel comfortable giving a 3.5 lb or 10lb dog something that's for a dog up to 25lbs. With the revolution they have 0-5lbs, 5-10lbs, and 10-20lbs, and so on. |
I give all three of my dogs the Revolution. The one and only problem I ever had was once I took them on a walk through the woods and Hobbs got a tick. But since then, Revolution started giving out the Preventick collars with their product so now whenever I take them in the woods for a walk, I put the tick collar on them and ticks are no longer a worry. Also, they aren't getting that extra pesticide for ticks unless I need them to have it and then I just put on the collar and take the collar off after the walk. |
I just found out FRONTLINE has a spray out now for the home - it doesn't have the pesticides of other flea treatments which is GREAT news for those who do have fleas and need to treat |
I guess I will give the Revolution a try. I like the fact that its all in one and it has different doses for weight. The only thing I'm really worried about is it only protects from American Dog Tick. The deer tick (lyme) is what I'm worried about. Maybe I will call my vet and speak to them about it alittle more. Jersey (2.4 pounds) got a dose of Revolution because she wouldnt take the pill, but I'm still doing more research. Thank you for your responses!! |
I just did my routine heart worm meds last night and they LOVE heart gaurd! They think its this fantastic treat and almost fight over it! I'm so paranoid though now with our little ones that I only gave my samll ones a 1/2 does. My biggy's got the whole pill though. Mine love em! |
