Swallowing hard... Sore throat? I have been up for most of the night with my baby because he was swallowing hard. That's the best way I can explain it. I know he has something going on with his throat. I just don't know what. This is the second time he goes through something like this and the second night in a month or so that we stay up trying to make him feel better. I gave him some benadryl off my finger about three times. He's 12lbs so I'm not worried about him OD'ing. Anyone else ever go through this? What can I expect the vet to say? I feel like my vet isn't that helpful. oh and it's a mixture of swallowing hard and reverse sneezing. |
I would go to the vet. It could be an obstruction or collapsed trachea or any number of things. I would definitely try to find out what is causing it. |
It sounds kind of severe and painful to be reverse sneezing. I'm thinking more of collapsed trachea. Is it spasming when you put your hand on it? Could something be caught in his throat? I'd take him back to the vet - or a different vet - pretty quickly bc if his airway is compromised (or getting there), he could be in danger. |
Ok now I'm freaking out. I have rubbed his throat when he is going through it and it doesn't seem to bother him. I'm calling the vets right now. Thank you for your responses! I will KIT and let you know how he is doing. AHHHH!!!! |
I have had yorkies do that when they get some of the hait by their mouth down their throat. My poor Gracie yearas ago kept swallowing hard so I took her in and I about died when the vet pulls this long wad of wet hair that was going all the way down her throat. Cali has gotten it a couple of times but I now check all of them everynight to make sure nothing is down their throat. Check in the corner of his mouth on both sides sometimes it is a very thin piece causing the problem. Hope he feels better |
Well, he seems fine now. I took him to the vet and "it's a mystery" He seemed to feel better once my husband came home at about 1 he ate and drank and did his business. I took something out of his mouth but i 'm not sure if he had just found it or if that's what was causing the irritation. I'm just glad he is back to normal. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I plan on checking him before bed every night form now on. It's just worth it. oh and my yorkie weighs 11 lbs oops, better change that. :scratchhe |
Tucker does this too. It happens when his throat gets dry and irritated. Its often worse at night. I give him a couple of squirts of chloraspetic to numb his throat and give him some immediate relief but the best thing is to prevent it by putting a couple drops of saline water in each nostril every night. This will drain down the back of his throat and keep it lubricated. |
that's good to know. thank you I will make a not of it. :thankyou2 |
