Cutting Ginger's hair again 1 Attachment(s) My poor girl. I really thought with the new food we had a good handle on her allergies. Her hair was beginning to grow in beautifully, she wasn't chewing all the time. Then spring hit. Arrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhh. The grass allergies must be the worst of it, because now she never stops chewing. She gets her coat so knotted up, I can brush her out and ten minutes later she's got matts around her feet, butt, on her side, everywhere she's chewing. Last year I finally gave up and cut her hair extremely short:( guess we'll be doing that again. She just ends up looking neglected and sad otherwise. (and seriously, SHE doesn't mind the short hair, it just makes ME sad) I'll post pics when she's done. Here she is LAST summer after her cut: |
Sorry to hear about Ginger's allergies bothering her again. Sophie has seasonal allergies to and I know how frustrating it can be. My vet put her on some meds called Hydroxyzine. He said it is a little stronger than Benadryl and she can take it long term. It is working pretty good so far. She still scratches some but nothing like she does without the meds. And don't worry about cutting Ginger's hair. I think she looks adorable with shorter hair. Kisses to you Ginger. I hope the itchies go away soon.:) |
Well I hate to break it to you but with hair, or without SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Loving those puppy dog eyes......Dont worry mom, hair grows back and seriously I think shes pretty stinking cute with a short cut! :D Do hope her allergies feel better soon......My daughter is going thru them HORRIBLY |
Ah, bless her itchy little heart! :( Just remind yourself of how many people CHOOSE to keep their yorkies cut that short ALL the time....and how cute it is! I cut Kiki's that short when her puppy hair was growing out, and I'm always wishing I had the nerve to do it again, because she looked soooo cute! |
Im definately keeping my boys hair short. Bella's hair....I wash it groom her make her look all froofy and 10 minutes later....SHAG ATTACK!!! lol |
Aww, thanks everyone! I just picked her up from the groomers, it was a new girl (sure wish they would've told me the other one left when I made the appointment) so I was a little nervous about leaving Ginger with her. Anyway, I skipped the short cut and just had her clean up her face and do her nails. Ginger seemed happy enough when I picked her up, so I'll be making another appointment. Just couldn't bear to make her go through the whole process with someone new. How extreme does THAT sound????? :D |
Judy, my Rudy doesn't have allergies, but Lucky does. The pollen count has been really bad in my area for a while now. But it doesn't stop Lucky from going outside and rubbing his face in the grass. Last Saturday, Rudy got his "summer cut " he is so... short and he did look like a different dog when we picked him up. :D You will know when it's time to get Ginger her "summer cut ". :) |

I was really happy over the winter, because her food allergies and kitty allergy seemed to be under control. Apparently its the seasonal stuff that really gets to her:( |
I would keep her off of all grasses and weeds, and just take her for walks on the sidewalks. You shouldn't have to cut her down. Just take a damp washcloth and rub her down each night in between her baths, then brush with a bristle brush really good. Keep all her bedding washed in dreft and vacuum every day to keep whatever gets tracked in, out. You may want to leave the shoes outside when you come in too. |

Guess I could leash her and limit her excursions to just long enough to do her deed. Breaks my heart to keep her inside in the nice weather though... I mean, she loves her baby pool, and she and Bernie will chase each other around the yard for for ages! Don't even get me started on the joys of squirrel chasing:D Also, there is dog club...and it's in the grass:( Comes down to quality of life...she won't be happy stuck inside. Thanks for the input though. With my shihtzu (she hated the outdoors) I would've kept her off the grass in a second. Ginger's got too much outdoor spirit. I do wash her bedding daily, (dreft or All free and clear)of course, at night she sleeps with us, and that only gets washed weekly...guess I could up that too. All shoes stay on the porch, and we've got all kinds of rugs to wipe everyones feet. I'm a vaccuumaholic:p , and we've only got carpet in one room anyway. Well, food for thought....maybe there is a way to keep her off the grass... |
