My baby is scratching like crazy !!! HELP I don't understand this. I use frontline on her about a month ago and now she is scratching like crazy. I have checked her all over and can not find a flea. I have gave her several baths and she still continues to scratch. I used baby shampoo and the scartching didn't stop, so I used some flea shampoo still no effect. Any ideas??? None of my other babies have this problem going on. |
Maybe seasonal allergies? My Cali scratches all the time and they can't determine the cause. |
Dry skin might be the problem. |
Was she scratching a lot before you put her on Frontline? Is it possible that she's allergic to it? |
She has been on frontline for several; years now with no problems. I don't understand why. I was reading last night about yeast buildup inside the intestines that could cause this. I'm going to change her diet and see if that maybe it. I started feeding a corn based food and maybe she can't eat that. I know some dogs have allergys to corn so I'll try that first. |
Ah, in that case I bet it is the corn. Some of the most common ingredients they're sometimes allergic to include wheat, dairy, soy, corn, beef, chicken, and chicken eggs. I'm thinking allergies... Ginger has horrible allergies. |
Can the vet test for allergies ?? Maybe thats it. |

Good luck! in the meanwhile, the following may help with the itching: Aveeno oatmeal baths Benedryl (do a search here or check with your vet for dosage amounts, Ginger weighs 13 lbs and gets a whole children's benedryl 2x/day) Lots of vacuuming Launder bedding in hypoallergenic detergent |
What are you feeding? I had similar problems until I switched to Canidae. |
Pita has this same thing, and sometimes I take her for a Prednisone shot. I am trying her on a Claritin a day which seems to help somewhat. I also use the Benadry Gel on the spots I know that are really itchy. Good Luck! |
Mitzi was scratching a lot for many many years until we switched her to raw food. Since then her skin cleared up and the scratching stopped. She is on frontline too and sometimes I catch a flea after about 3 to 4 weeks on her, right before she is supposed to get the next treatment. Before we switched her food it helped her when she was wearing a soft cotton shirt and baths with oatmeal shampoo. |
We think Brutus has seasonal allergies. It's not as bad now but he's still scratching some. He's on medication and omega 3. I feel so bad for him! |
It appears she is having an allergic reaction to the Frontline. |
