Dental Cleaning Question Ellie had to have 9 adult teeth pulled in January, one had fallen out and a couple others were lose. She has stage 3-4 periodontal disease (worst is 4). She now gets her teeth brushed everyday and OraVet home care once a week. Her vet (specializes in dog dentistry) is probably going to want to do a cleaning every 6 months now. Ellie's breath is getting the nasty smell back like before her last cleaning. I just don't know if every 6 months is too much for a Yorkie to be under anesthesia. She had no reaction to it last time but is very sensitive to atleast one vaccine. What do you all think? Thank You |
Having a specialist is terrific. Yorkies are famous for having poor teeth as you probably already know. I would follow the vets advice because diseased teeth caused serious blood infections. Good luck! |
Good luck!! You might ask him about Petzlife Oral gel...Ask him if he thinks this product might help in between cleanings... |
i found someone to clean their teeth anesthesia free! I love it! I would have never thought she could get Vixxen still enough, but she does! Her vet says her teeth look great :D Do a search in your area, maybe you'll find one? |
Thank-You both. We will talk to her vet about this. |

When I posted last I only saw two responses so now thank you to all three of you. I was just looking into the anesthesia free cleanings but some people think it doesn't go deep enough into the gum pockets... if they are awake. I think this is the way I want to go anyway. Does anyone know of a vet that will do this in Southeast Michigan? |
