eating baby carrots
 
I was just reading about putting baby carrots in the kongs. I am assuming this is the raw carrots. Couldn't the dogs break off small pieces and choke on these?

I give my guys baby carrots...I cut them up alittle smaller, they love them. I have never had a problem with choking...Knock on wood...:thumbup:

Mine love carrots and do fine with them. I guess they could choke on anything.

Mojo want eat a plain, cold baby carrot...I steam them for him, so they are softer and warm and he loves them! Funny because my other dogs won't eat a baby carrot, as is, either.....crazy dogs!

i give carrots to my babies as treats this is a perfect treat for my liver shunt baby.

maggie LOOOOOOOOOOOOVES baby carrots. in fact, we don't buy store bought treats at all anymore...we buy baby carrots. all of our dogs love them. never had a problem with them choking but i am sure it is possible.

I've given Sukoshi cold baby carrots straight from the bag before, and she chews them up just fine. It's a healthy treat for them - in moderation though, because carrots do have sugar in them.

i give bella raw carrots all the time!! she lovesssss them. i just cut them up a little.....

Milo loves him some baby carrots!

Steamed or raw.

I like giving the raw because they seem to be a good way to clean his teeth and breath as well.:thumbup:

Mine all love carrots, they don't half make a mess on the floor....bits of carrot everywhere :rolleyes:

It's accepted amongst breeders over here that they don't just help clean teeth, they help keep anal glands clear too :)

Be careful not to give too much carrots to your yorkie . Carrots have a high content of calcium oxalate and yorkies have a genetic predisposition to form calcium oxa stones . Also avoid giving spinach and raw celery .

From my vet . Yorkies have a genetic predisposition to develop kidney and bladder stones ( it's in the breed ) and you want to limit foods that have hight content in calcium oxa ...if you want to give them carrots and celri boil them first . Royce developped calcium oxa stones and I received a whole documentation from U of Minessota regarding foods high in cal oxa.
