Dew Claws When I got Summerlin, she still had her dew claws - only two, though. They make me very nervous, and the girls at Pets Mart refuse to trim them.... I think they should be, because there is actually a nail on them. What I am wondering is if the vet could maybe remove them when I get Summerlin fixed? I hope to get it done in the next couple of months, but I was thinking maybe I could get her fixed, get the dew claws removed, and have her leftover teeth pulled all at once? Any suggestions? I am mainly concerned about the dew claws - if they can't be removed, what can I do to keep them extra "safe"? Thanks for the help! |
I have heard of people having them removed when their dog was spayed/netered so you could call your vet and see if they wll do it. Make sure you get pain meds because I bet it really hurts. Ive heard if you leave them you just need to keep them trimed so they dont get caught on things |
If you can't get them removed, defibnetly get them trimmed regularly. If they're not, they'll get stuck on carpets and stuff a LOT, and it will be painful for your baby |
My Harvey Has His Dew Claws At The Front, And I Just Trim The Ends Off Each Time I Do The Rest Of His Nails, About Every Month Or So. It Is Really Easy To Do - It Keeps Them Short And Less Problamatic. Harvey Doesnt Mind, But At First He Was A Little Afraid. It Gets Easier Each Time..... |
