Lumb after vacination Hi all. Just a quick ? I live in New zealand and just got my 10 week old puppy vaccinated and two days later I noticed a hard lumb in her neck. I rang the vet and she said that it wasnt uncommon for a puppy to have this reaction. Has any one else had this reaction. |
Yes, Sammie has had this reaction....when we pet him in the neck area, he would whelp. Sometimes, the doctor will give the puppy a stereod shot if the sore gets bad It's usually normal....I wouldn't worry too much |
Lillybelle had a couple lumps after her shots, but after a couple of weeks they went away...they weren't hard, and about the size of a dime. |
Layla just got her rabbies about 3 days ago.. she has a large hard lump on her back and last time it lasted about a month.. slowly becoming smaller .. my vet said to put a hot compress on it and we do that each night. |
:aimeeyork Autumn had her rabies shot and then I felt a lump. I pretty much freaked out because I had just found a lump in my pug and found out it was cancer. We rushed to the vet and was very much reassured. |
Mine get a lump at the shot site too. It goes away after a little while. |
That is normal |
If you rub the spot where the needle went in, quite firmly, immediately after the vet has given the jab it helps to prevent this. It helps distribute the vaccine & can prevent local inflammation causing the lump. I learned this from some old breeders of my other breed. It works :) |
Hi, This is my very first post, I am a new owner of Duchess that was born on April 06 2007 and I took her to the vet for her very first Rabbies shot, and the following day I found a quarter size lump in the same location of where the shot was administered, 4 days later the lump became a nickel size and a week later (now) the size is a dime size. I called the Vet and I insisted to communicate with the Doctor, the Doctor said it is just a reaction and that it will go away in about 6 weeks or so. I then spoke to my sister an RN, she said that the lump is due to wrongfuly administered shot, the Doctor did not administerd the procedure correctly. My sister said that, when she was a student Nurse at school, they were practicing on real oranges, and it is often to make a mistake giving a shot. If the shot given in a crooked way, some of the medicine goes into a 1 or 2 layers of the skin, that liquid stays in between these skins, and eventually it goes away, since skin always reproduces. Another words to make the story short, the lump is due to a human error. The good news is, that to my puppy there is no pain. My sister's concern now, is if the RIGHT DOSE ACTIVE INGREDIENCE is effective into the body of my puppy. I really prefer now to take my puppy to another vet for the same thing, another Rabbies shot, in hopes it is done right. |
I have had puppies with the lump and it goes away after awhile. I can happen at any vet and doesn't mean the vet is a bad one. Just make sure they use the smallest needle possible. I always ask for the smallest and still get the lump in puppies sometimes. |
Its normal, but rubbing the site just after the vac is given can help to prevent it. |
Very normal reaction. |
Ok, fine, but I spoke to 2 Registered Nurses and they both told me the same thing, A sloppy job by a vet technician will result a lump. But a well administered injection with the correct equipment by a well trained and experienced "Nurse" or "Doctor" will never cause a lump. The problem is us the clients, we are tollerating these lumps for years and the VET is getting away with it by saying it is a reaction, well it is NOT a reaction, according to experienced RN's This is an epidemic in our VET's across the country, infested with incompetent staff that do NOT have the proper training in administering the shots. I have made an appointment to see Dr. Brown, she is the owner of the Vet Clinic, I will discuss this matter with her, Due to the fact that some injections are successful without a lump, that tells me something. I simply want to investigate the root cause of why sometimes an injection causes a lump and why another injection a year later it does not. At this point my curiosity is groing on me, as to why sometimes there is a lump and why sometimes there is no lump ! |
