Frontline, Advantix, or Biospot? I know some of you were discussing the different types of Frontline and how to get it the cheapest a few weeks back... We were using Frontline, but I'm out now, and I'm wondering if I should switch to Advantix or Biospot, or should I stick with Frontline? Anyone have preferences or experiences? Thanks! |
I have heard of dogs having bad reactons to the biospot |
Stay away from Biospot. You might want to GOOGLE "Danger of Biospot" and read about it. |
Gracie uses the basic Frontline. I got a coupon at Fred Meyer for $5 off Frontline at 1800petmeds.com. I really got a great deal on a 6 month supply, and it was free shipping. |
I use frontline first in the past, and I read that revolution cover more stuff and I change it to revolution, then I saw aflea and a tick:eek: in her ear then I change to advantix and I saw another tick on her leg , so know I'm switching back to frontline because she never never had a tick or a flea or anything on her in the whole year that she was on it  , this is just my experience:aimeeyork |
All 3 of my Yorkies had a bad reaction to BioSpot, I do not recommend it! Also Sergeants, and something else they sale at wal-mart... I didn't think my female was going to make it. Thank gosh I figured it out, and washed that stuff off of them, and then got them to the vet. Her is an idea of why... The Permethrin in Bio Spot, which is the main ingredient, is 45% of one of those vials of stuff you put on your dog. In my dads cattle spray it is 10% Permethrin, but then you take that stuff and mix it with gallons of water (and I mean gallons!), then spray it on the cattle. I will never use that stuff again! When I called and reported them they said that it does happen alot, but not always. I have used Frontline before, and my mom happened to be at the feed store and bought the bio-spot, she felt horrible. I'll never use anything but Frontline ever again. I agree, if you just google it, you'll get a WHOLE lot of information on it. It's bad stuff! |
I really don't which one is better. I just ordered Frontline plus from Petshed.com. I got a 6 month supply for $50.00. They seem to be cheaper than other places. |
Here's my :twocents: I have used Frontline Plus on all of my dogs since 1996. I bought BioSpot once (the store clerk said that it was just as good as Frontline and less $$) and used it because I thought that I was going to save lots of $$. BioSpot has the ingredient Permethrin. It can cause seizures &/or death to some dogs. I split 1 vial between my 3 dogs. 2 Yorkies and a Yorkie/Maltese mix. It made an oily spot at the point of application. I didn't like it so I washed it off of the 2 Yorkies first. By the time I got to my Yorkie/Malt to give him a bath he was having seizures. It's not pretty. You know how an insect will twist up when you spray it with bug killer? That's what he was doing. I called my vet at home and he met me at the office, would not speak to me, only took care of my dog. He gave him an iv and some meds to counteract the Permethrin. It was going after his nervous system just like he was an insect. He lived. If I had given him the whole vial he would not have lived. If I had not washed it off of him as soon as I did he would not have lived. If I had not gotten him to the vet as quickly as I did he would not have lived. I learned a big lesson that day. By not doing research properly and only going by saving $$ I could have been the one to kill my own dog. My cost of my ignorance almost was a precious life. Use whatever you want on your own dogs but to your research first. Ask your vet, call a company, ask here. You'll get alot of different answers, it's up to you to choose wisely. |
i saw this person's story about using the biospot on their dog. so sad!:( http://www.elversonpuzzle.com/biospot.html |
I have never used biospot on any of my dogs but did use the kind for cats on my persian cat years back. Within one hour she was at the vet. She was fine after she was treated but it sure taught me a lesson on that stuff. She's 17 now and living her golden years with my grandparents who can no longer have dogs. They use advantage on her now. |
why is this biospot stuff still on the market!!?? Sounds dangerous for animals |
i used this stuff once called something spot and when i put it on her back she started going crazy so i washed it off and she had huge whelps and blisters all over her back it broke my heart i think it was called spot on but it could have been biospot. |
WOW! Thank you all for responding so quickly! I never knew! I haven't tried anything but Frontline-but it sounds like I'll be sticking with it! I will NOT be using BioSpot at all, ever! If anyone on here has had a bad experience like those you all have been writing about, that's enough for me. My heart goes out to those of you that used that product and your dogs had bad reactions to it-I can't believe it's still on the market! Again, I really appreciate you all responding with so much information and in such a short amount of time. Consider yourselves lifesavers-I didn't put any of that other stuff on my two furgirls! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!   :D :D :D |
Mine get Frontline Plus. I tried BioSpot once because it was so cheap and I read some good reviews about it. I've never seen a flea on them when they're on Frontline Plus, but within two weeks after applying BioSpot, I found fleas! :thumbdown I've never tried Advantix, but I'm going to stick with Frontline Plus as long as it keeps working. |
I use a product called "Flea Treats". They also have Vitamin B Complex Supplement in them. A bottle of 500 tabs lasts me a little over a month for my 3 dogs and it is about $25.00. I have never seen a flea and they love the taste. Have been using this since November of last year. Has anyone else ever used this product? |
I have used frontline plus for years on my dogs and cats. I have had no problem with fleas or ticks. This part of Texas has fleas and ticks so bad that I have to spray the kids and spouse before they come in the house from the woods or pond. |
k9 advantix? anyone have any opinions on k9 advantix? i too would like to know which one is better. frontline or k9 advantix? i heard k9 advantix protects from mosquitoes and frontline doesn't. i really would like other opinions on k9 advantix. |

You are asking very good questions. I wish that I had thought to ask questions before trying BioSpot. We use Frontline Plus. Just remember, like the other flea & tick control applications. They don't stop the fleas & ticks from getting on them. They make it so that the fleas & ticks die if they get on them. |
I ordered 6 months worth of Frontline Plus, which I plan to split between my two, since I don't think either of them needs as much pesticide on them as a 22 lb. dog. Check out dog.com for good deals on this and other flea meds-it's cheaper than ANYWHERE else online that I found. |
:thumbdown One of my Yorkies had a really bad reaction to Bio-Spot. She lost hair, wouldn't eat and itched like crazy. I will never buy that again. I had to take her to the vet and they put a steroid cream on the bare spot and put her on meds. So, saving money buying Bio Spot cost me over $80.00 in vet bills. :( |
holy CRAP...i just put biospot on maggie because I just saw a flea and knew I had some flea stuff in the cabinet. I am going to wash her right now..I am scared to death after reading this. Dear God, I hope i have not done something bad. she is not acting weird but i JUST put it on her. thanks GOD for YT!!! now I know to read about this kind of stuff on here before using it! sheesh..I'm an idiot. ok..off to wash maggie...at 12:30am :) |
we called recently and asked the vet and she said the best we could get is frontline |
we use frontline but i really don't like that neither - frontline/frontline plus - kill or repel mosquitoes which is something we really need here in the south this time of the year! the only products that say they do are: bio spot (already knew to stay away from that one!) k9 advantix and sentry pro - this one i have not heard about. i had asked on another thread about the Zema flea and tick drops but no one seems to know anything about this product. i was interested because it has a lower dosage of the chemicals in it. |
We got Advantix for the mosquito protection and then I read that the permethrin in it is a possible carcinogen and could be linked to animal deaths. Ellie's vet also said that Advantix can make your dog feel like it has something crawling on its skin. We won't use that now. Ellie's vet recommends Frontline. |
All flea applications are an insecticide, plain and simple. Since Charlie has had demodex, I apply Revolution and he doesn't seem to have a reaction. However, they will still get fleas on their body and if they scratch, ingest...tapeworm is the outcome. Personally, I believe it is important to check them thoroughly with a flea comb after being outside and daily. When Sophie was a baby, I went overboard with flea stuff and she became ill. Vomited from all of my flea shampoos --- I stopped all flea applications, bathed her weekly. Not sure who is more irked by fleas - the pet owner or the animal. They make me cringe but so do tapeworms. |
