what is a good puppy treat? It's time to start Dixie with some basic training. She almost has her sit down. I think with some motivation she will be jumping hoops in no time. What is a healthy, bite sized dog treat you folks use? For Older small breeds, and large dogs I use hotdog pieces -which I think would upset Dixies belly, string cheese pieces-I think would constipate her. She is so tiny I am not sure what to give her so I am looking for something that is yummy for her without causing issues with her belly. Not any people food. The only thing I've come up with is her food-but that isnt very motivating she gets that all the time. |
Mine love the Bil-Jac treats. They are made of liver and they are soft so you can just break off them into smaller pieces. They are also reasonable priced. |

I use Authority Liver treats. They are soft and I can brake off little bits. She loves them. |
when you go to buy them they are sold in a little teeny mikl carton or a med sized bag..... let me just say,,, you may as well buy the bag bc that carton was gone in a week! I got mine at Petsmart and they have them at PetSupermarket too! |
Debbie, your baby is adorable. Her and Maggie could almost pass for siblings. I know this is probably a bad treat, but I use the baby size goldfish crackers. She only get about 4 a day. She is now 14 weeks old and sits, down, bang-bang and crawls down pat. I give her a 1/4" tiny,tiny piece of American Cheese for a PP treat. She gets that when she comes back into the house from doing her business. |
I use natural balance roll for treat.. cut a thin slice and chop into tiny pieces. Mine love it. |
I have been using Honey Nut Cheerios,,,,They like them and will follow commands well.....('fairly well'). They are easy to stick a few in a pocket and have handy when I want to reward them quickly. I also started using a clicker...I'm not really following the "clicker training" method completely...but I wanted to have "SOMETHING" that would get their attention FAST in case one gets out the front door towards the road....I use the clicker 'suddenly....for no reason....' ....and just say "COME"....just to get their attention...then I give them a tiny, small bite of cheese (they love the cheese). I like the other ideas....I will look for the Bil Jac and others next time i'm in PetSmart.....mine never liked any of the 'hard' treats. |

Chewy loves Pro-Treat beef liver treats. They are great and there are absolutely no additives or junky by-products. You can cut one cube into a bunch of tiny pieces and use that throughout the day. |
I use the Authority Liver treats and the Bil Jac but I am on a hunt for the yogurt drops! I also use the natural balance roll sometimes. Debr- Clicker training is the way to go. I used that method on my westie and my poodle and they still come, without fail, to that clicker!! |
