My babies GOBBLED the Honest Kitchen! I recently bought some Embark samples - tried it last night. It looked so "healthy" that I was sure they probably wouldn't like it. THEY LOVED IT!!!! I am so pleased with this food. It came w/ a really informative brochure about their philosophy and products. I love the ingredients. Also, I asked how they preserved it - it's with rosemary! So, my new diet for my babies is: canned (Human) chicken and rice if in a hurry, Embark the majority of the time, and Missing Link. My only caveat is that since Marcel is only 5 mths and 1.7 pounds, I still want to leave out the Canidae for him during the day for grazing. Think this is okay? |
im about to buy some samples |
How wonderful!! I thought about doing the Honest Kitchen also :) They look like they have a great product, but we actually went for homecooking instead. It should probably be okay to leave the Canidae out for him during the day if you work, but if you're home all day, then you can probably just give him smaller more frequent meals of the Embark. |
Do you think the Force line from The Honest Kitchen would be okay for Ralphie with the calcium oxalate stone problem?? I was just about to order a sample of Force and supplement him with potassium citrate. I think my vet is really going to hate me after today and if that's the case, I'll find a new one. He's so pro Hill's. I once tried the Wysong stuff and Ralphie was vomiting it. So as good as it probably is, he couldn't get the food down or keep it down. Is is the dry stuff like Wysong?? |
Let me read the ingredients real quick, and I'll get right back to you... |
Force n. Strength or Power, Dynamism, Might, Energy, Life. Hormone-free chicken, organic flaxseed, potatoes, celery, sweet potatoes, apples, alfalfa, organic kelp, honey, zucchini, green beans, cabbage, bananas, papayas, yogurt, basil, garlic and rosemary. Celery and sweet potatoes are high oxalate. Potatoes and green beans are medium oxalate. And all the other ingredients are low oxalate and are perfectly fine. Also, you are supplementing with potassium citrate, so it might be okay as long as you're giving that. I'm not positive. The homecooked meals that I make for Miko sometimes also contain green beans, potatoes and sweet potatoes, and he does fine with it. You should ask your vet, but if he isn't one of those vets that listens to you, then I would find another vet. Maybe a holistic vet that is more educated on natural dog nutrition. This food is dehydrated so when you get it, you prepare one meal at a time, and you have to add water to it. So it won't be a dry food. |
Do they have a kibble formula? |

Gordon has been on the Force and Embark for over a month and he also eats the Canidae. He has free feed Canidae, and I give him a 1/4 of a cup of either the Force or Emabark , morning and evening. I also give him Missing Link....... One day last week he didn't seem to want to eat any of his Canidae but gobbled down the Force and Embark. Late that afternoon he was playing with one of his soft toys and I spotted blood on it.....picked him up and looked and he had a baby tooth hanging out. Before I started him on the Honest Kitchen I thought he was a picky eat....now he is a little pig.....LOL |
so which kind would be best for a 5 month old yorkie? |
I believe Embark is recommended for puppies and active adults. |
i just ordered the 4oz one for skoshi to see if he likes it. |
I might try to get some samples and see if Jake likes it. I've been giving him a new refrigerated food made from fresh ingredients. He LOVES it, and it doesn't smell bad at all. Sure doesn't smell like dog food. |
Toto loves the Force!! She's been on it for a long time and our vet heatily approved! ;) |
