So sad Armani had a vet app on sat which confirmed that he has giardia. Im so sad that my baby is sick. The vet gave me meds to give him through a syringe, which let me tell u is a task, Armani has figured out that by opening his mouth and shaking his head, I end up covered head to toe in his meds. AHHH I just want to scream I just want him to get better. Does anyone has any advice? |
i don't know anything about this but there is a yt'er here that has dealt with this recently, I am sure she will see this and talk to you about it. good luck! i am so sorry about the news. I hope it clears up soon! keep us posted!! |
oh, and giving medicine....put the med in at the back of his tongue, hold his mouth shut and gently rub his throat, tilting his head up slightly. that is how i give my dogs meds when they refuse to take them. it kinda forces them to swallow. |

Giardia isnt really a big deal...when i got my dog it seemed like they all had it and Chewy was better after about 3 days of the meds. I just had my dad holing her head and I would stick the syringe into the side of her mouth. I would also give her nutri cal right away so she began to associate the two. Hope your baby feels better soon :) |

Autumn had Giardia when I got her. I laid her on my lap on her back opened her mouth and shot the meds in.\ Good Luck:animal36 |

Giardia causes anorexia, so make sure your little one eats. Piper had this also when I got her, along with coccidia. If you have other animals it can spread. Be careful you don't get it. Wash your hands after handling his poo. |

How long.. did it take for it to resolve, he seems so down, I think the medication wears him out. My boyfriend kept telling me I was overprotective but I am so glad that I got him to the vet!!!!! O and Armani has no problem eating, he is a lean mean eating maching.. last monday he was 1.4pounds on sat he was 1.6 LOL.!! he is becoming quite the fur ball. |

We've had two experiences with Giardia now!!! They can get very sick, but it sounds like your little guy is eating well if he gained 2 oz!! When you give his meds, if you put him on the counter or a table and wrap your arm around him (if you know what a "football" hold is) with his butt toward you - head away - then use that same hand to open his mouth and squirt the meds into the side of his mouth toward the back of his throat, really fast, it usually works. If the vet didn't already tell you, everything your pup has needs to be disinfected with a bleach solution. I also keep baby wipes to wash the bum every time they potty as well feet after coming in from outside. |
