distemper booster Coco is 12 weeks(2.5lbs) and has just had her Distemper booster and she yelps when I pick her up, her nose feels warm and she seems to just want to sleep. Is this normal reaction from a vaccine? I noticed she also has a cleft lip, which wan't noticeable before. The vet said she shouldn't have any problems other than teeth that may need to be removed. It seems to just affect the nose and teeth but no hole in her palate. |
I was told that the booster can cause them pain and make them not feel well. My guy tolerated it pretty well...not any pain really...just a little sluggish for a few hours. The vet said it could be more painful depending on which combination the shots are given in. I hope Coco feels better soon. |
My Jewels had that reaction to her vacines too |
Sounds normal to me! One of my boys was like that, the other was fine, like nothing happened! Let your vet know that he is very sensative to the shot and they will give him a dose of pain meds before his next shot so he won't be quite so miserable next time. Just my experience, my little guy was sensative to his shots and the vet gave them spread out one a week for 3 weeks... well the next time he had them he was bigger and the vet thought he'd be fine. He ended up having an allergic reaction, nothing major but scary for me! He was swollen, had hives and had red puffy eyes. Had to get him some childrens benedryl. He'll never get more than 1 shot at a time ever again! |
Cali had the same rection to her 2nd puppy booster but was fine the next day. |
Same thing happened to my 3 yr old Cookie. He had his shot Wednesday for Distemper and he was on my bed all day long and just wanted me to be with him. Lastnight he was shaking for at leat 30 minutes while he slept. I had him cuddled in my arm with his Minky blanky. I felt terrible for him. The injection area was very sore and you could not touch him there. He seems much better today but I worry because I'm so paranoid since he has been sick in the past. Genie Cookie Lola Angel |
I always have the vet give my doggies only 1/2 the dose...I have been told it is dangerous to give full doses to our small dogs and the horror stories I have heard keep me away from vets who will not give 1/2 doses... :p |
