We finally have almost enough money for our baby!!! We have $600 and by the end of this week well have $ 800!!!! We only need $100 more to do his surgery!!!! The other ortho vet we went to see said his leg is fixable and he said he'll do it for $900. He said its justup to us to keep him off of his leg till it heals!!!!:) |
GREAT!!! :D :D :D :D Please do a search here on YT for: Luxating Patella There is a lot of GREAT information regarding recovery. Myself and Yorkiemalt can answer questions for you, b/c we both have been through it twice. You need to take recovery serious. This little ones don't have any clue that they just had major surgery and that they need to rest. It sounds like the surgery that he needs is going to be instense, and I am sure it will be at least an 8 week recovery. During that time he should be contained either in a crate of small enclosed pen area. As weeks go by he will get better and better and he can have more free time, but for the most part he need to not run, play, jump, etc..until the Ortho Vet says that he is healed and can have his freedom back. Don't get me wrong, he does need to 'exercise' that leg, but very very slowly over the course of at least 8 weeks. Make sure the Ortho Vet goes over the whole recovery period with you, and we are here if you have questions. ;) |
Luxating Patella My eight month old yourkie was recently diagnosed with this condition. My vet said that he would send Taz's x-rays to a specialist and that he would let me know. I haven't heard anything yet but I would really like to get some more info on this disease. Which website has the best information? Thanks! |

We just picked up our baby this morning from his surgery yesterday. He had Luxating Patella.. but worse! He was born without a groove for his kneecap to sit in! So they had to make one for his kneecap.. He has three pins holding everything inplace!! He's doing really good.. hes already eating and everything!! He's goess back in a week to get his stitches out and then he goes back in 6 weeks to get the pins tookin out!!!! Its going to take 8 weeks for his leg to fully heal!!! Thank you all so much for all the information you've givin us and all the prayers!!!!! __________________ |
Oh boy! Yes, that's a very very bad LP. Please make sure that he is not active for his recovery, those pins can migrate. Roxy's second re-LP they put a pin in. At her 6 week check up, she was ok, but around her 8 or 9 week, there was a bump, the size of a hazelnut in the inner part of her leg. I brought her back and they took and x-ray and yes the pin had migrated. The Dr. removed it then, in about 20 mins. After a couple of weeks the bump slowly went away ;) |
