[QUOTE=HighlandYorkies;1081988]Ask your vet to check for collapsed trachea....my Tara who is barely 4lbs has that and it was said to be bad....and she wouldn't make four. She is seven and very healthy - if you lower their head downwards and massage their throat gently, it releases the colapse in the airway, and they are fine. Poor Tara had an op at one year old to check for this, and it was a waste of money, as I know myself what to do now, and she stops coughing. I never leave her on her own, just in case of an episode - but that is the only thing. She is happy and heathly:D It is caused by not enough protein in the mother and not enough going to the pups, when she is carrying them. I told the breeder, and she was mortified. Tara was from the 6th litter of a five yr old dog, who they said was now retiring ! She's gorgeous and a model though - and very fit and healthy as long as I lower her head during coughing:) Tara below, and left in avatar pic. :animal-pa Debra x x x[/QUO Thanks so much for the info. I will have them check this out at the vet on Friday. I have been massaging her neck when she starts coughing and it does seem to help. |
All three of my dogs have had episodes with reverse sneezing. Ivan just does it 3 or four times in a row. Adie maybe does it twice but Cassie does it over and over. It terrifies her. I massage her nose where her nostrils start (on the outside not blocking her air). Her eyes water and she is stiff as a board. Once it stops it doesn't phase her anymore and she is fine. I did observe Adie leaning way over the side of her toy box to retrieve something and it started an episode. That made me wonder if it was her trachea instead of her nose. She too is only 4 lbs. |
