LMAO!!!!! Yeah, they're pretty stinky! |
Awhile back bully sticks came up in conversation and most of the dogs on that thread came down with diarreah after giving those. Just buy the femur bones. I boil them first, remove the marrow. Boiling does not make them splinter like most other bones. A good knuckle bone is also good for them and can also be boiled. |
Hmmm -- none of my four have ever gotten diarrhea from bully sticks -- they love them. I have gotten them from eddieb on ebay and Kathryn -- neither batch has smelled bad. I wonder if some smell worse because they are not thoroughly dried? They don't have anything added, btw, just dried -- like jerky without the marinade. I would not be adverse to trying femur bones though. Where do you get them? Do I ask the butcher in the meat section of the grocery store? Are they marked femur bone -- I hate to sound dumb but not sure I would recognize it. |
Beef leg bones. Ask the butcher if you can't see them with the meats. They are round and have a marrow. Some are also cut to about 1 inch thick, which is what I like. Some butchers will cut these, but now days you will find that most butchers are not even allowed to cut meats. They come in pre- packaged. Maybe an independant butcher shop would still cut meat and bones. |
My herd of yorkies are huge bully fans. We have tried several different types. I have settled with the ebay seller -- eddieb260. His bully's do not stink. I buy in bulk otherwise I would buy from Kathryn_V at BeyondSpoiled.com. Her bullysticks do not stink, either. I have found that the Red Barn Bully's and a couple of other brands do smell worse than King Kong's toe jam AND they are greasy. I give my dogs shank bones which I believe are the same as a femor bone, -- I have our butcher but the shanks about 3/4" thick, use the meat to make a soup -- clean the bones and give them to the dogs. LOL -- if they get nasty looking you can wash them. I have never ever even had a tooth mark scratched into one. They are tough and hard and safe. |

weve never tried bully sticks, once i found out what it is , i get nausea just thinking about it.. aye dios..lol |
MAGGOTS??????????????? How can this be? Wouldn't that mean the eggs were already there? Or, did something come and lay them once the bullies were wet? Or, were they never wet/never used? |
Weellll..I just found out today what bully sticks are. Had never heard of them until I got on YT. Of course they stink...Cindy just told me what they are:eek: |
I must be the only nerd that doesnt know what a bully stick is or have never seen one that I know of in the store. If they stink like King Kongs toe jam, I guess I am not missing much though. |

I buy from him. They do have an odor but I don't mind it - I guess I've gotten used to it. It's not a really strong odor in my nose. :D |

The Bully Stix doesnt bother Sam. He loves them! He likes the spring ones from Petsmart by Red Barn. I havent noticed those smelling as bad as the others I have bought. |
I've tried a few different ones and they've all been BEYOND SMELLY. Most smell like a pig farm that hasn't been cleaned out for months! And then the disgusting white goo that comes off of them... :tongue036 Then again, Trixie LOOOOOOVES them, so I'll give them to her once in a while. I rather give her the minty bones though :D |
Student nurse here...I completely understand when you say you've smelled some pretty horrible things. I could write a book and I'm only in my second year of university  Disclaimer: The following is flat-out nasty. ;) One of my teachers said that she finds they smell like poo from a person infected with c-dif. SO GROSS, I know, but it's kinda true. Rotting flesh-ish. |
