Allergy Meds. Sophie went to the vet yesterday to have her booster shots and get some help with her allergies. She was taking 12.5mg of benadryl everyday and it was helping some but she still was scratching her poor little nose some. He gave her something called Hydroxyzine 25mg. He said it is a little stronger than the benadryl. So far it looks like it may be going to work. She has hardly scratched any today at all and when she did it was earlier this morning right after I gave her the meds. So maybe they just needed some time to take affect. My husband took her to his building with him and he said she sneezed a couple of times so he brought her back in and so far she is fine. Please pray this works. :) I just thought I would post incase someone else was having this same trouble with their babies. Maybe this will work for them too.:) Thank God Sophie's are only seasonal.:aimeeyork |
Hey! I have two yorkies and they have allergies. I don't know what to do! If I see them scratching them I give them Benadryl, but don't want to give that to them all the time. Sometimes they scratch so bad they make themselves bleed!!! I take them to the vet to get an IM shot of steriods ad it costs me about 300.00 in vet bills! I am really getting frustrated. I switched sampoo to this oatmeal oat shampo, but it just doesn't seem to be enough. Harley's belly is broken out with a rash all the time and I jsut want to figue this out for them. Any ideas? |
My vet mentioned Atopica for severe allergies. He said Sophie's is not that severe so he just gave her the Hydroxyzine. He said she could take it long term if needed but hers are only seasonal. Maybe you could ask your vet about different types of meds. besides the steroids. That is what I did. He was going to give her a steroid shot and I asked for some type of medicine she could take that would last longer. Hope this helps.:) |
My dog is having the same problems with allergies. Does anyone know how much benadryl in milliliters that I should give her? She is 5 months old and weighs 3 lbs. Any help is appreciated! Thanks Nikol |
i wanted to bump this one to see what was happening with these little ones |
Otis got put on Hydroxyzine 10mg twice daily about a week ago for tail and paw chewing. I guess he's better. He still has some bad days, especially after he's been outside playing. I never see any rash though. They said it takes awhile to build up in their system so it may be 3-4 wks before it's working full strength. |
how much does he weigh? we tried that one but will ask the dermatologist- we wash her paws with hypoallergenic huggies wipes when she comes in or if she chews them too much as derm said the paws is where they track allergents then they lick and injest it as well :( |
Jazzie had such severe allergies that her doctor wanted to start her on weekly injections. Luckly I found Natural Balance Duck & Potato formula and Jazzie is only needing benadryl once or twice a YEAR! It took a good 2-3 months to really see the food was making a difference but I'm 100% sold. Jazzie has been allergy free for over 3 years now. If you have not tried Natural Balance, it can't hurt to give it a try. |
Childrens Benadryl dosage is 1 mm per pound, per my vet. |
