had our 2nd vet Appointment/discussed micro-chip Ok, roxie had her 2nd apptointment today and I asked the vet straight out why she doesn't to to micro Roxie right now, she left the room and came back and showed me that needle.. i just about fell to the floor. It is so thick, wow! i was in shock, so i can understand why she wants to wait. She said she is so tiny, 11 weeks and she weighs 1.7 pounds..she gained 3 oz since i got her.she is so tiny and she said that she would do it if i really wanted her to but she feels that we should wait a little while, so i will. i dod get my mini poodle done today though. She did really well with it. She weighs 8.1lbs, shes a little leggy but also kinda small. she is over 1 yr and the normal weight for a mini is anywhere from 10-15 pounds. Roxie checked out 100% ok and did great with her shots, I am ready for another yorkie. i cant believe how adorable they are!!! |
That's the sign of a good vet waiting to do that...I heard the needle is huge |
I had Cali and Pixie done while they were awake last year and the vet said they did fine. But Cali was 4 lbs and Maya 12 lbs. I just had Pixie at the vet for distemper and asked about Microchipping and she said to wait a week or so because she would be sore from the distemper shot. She is 3 lbs and so tiny I am worried about the size of the needle as well. |
Both my girls got micro chipped when they were under getting spayed. I never saw the needle. Good thing. |
The needle is so thick, i was in shock when i saw how huge it was.. It reminded me of the thickness of a drill bit~~~ Zoey did have hers done yesterday and she has done fine. they numb them up prior to inserting the microchip..however I did feel a little lump at the injection site! |
We had Mackenzie microchipped while she was being spayed too... |
Kodak is 2 and kamara is almost 5mos old, she is just 2lbs this week. They were both microchipped a few weeks ago. The needle was long, but it wasn't that big. I read on here where others say the needle was small and others say the needle & chip were big. The chip they showed me was small and I held them and was in the room when they did it. They did really well. |
At the shelter here, everyone gets chipped before they go home. Mostly, it's done during the spay/neuter surgery, but otherwise we just do it before they leave the building. Yes, the needle is massive and yes we chip 8 week old kittens and puppies, but they always weigh at least 2 pounds whereas some of the little yorks on here are smaller than that! It can be scary cause the needle is so big, but as someone who has chipped many different kinds of animals, it's not as bad as you think. Good job of the vet though to think about the size of your pup before doing it! |
oh dear! i am glad you guys have said what the needle is like - i am not sure i want to see that. i might chicken out when it comes time for romeo to be 'chipped! |
I've heard it's quite large. Wylie had his around a year old or so. I'll do Marcel's during the neuter. |
