extra teeth i was messing with tyesha yesterday and i notice that on her bottom row in her mouth she has two rows of teeth, it looks so gross, and they are actually right next to each other like a shark. i know they have to get pulled out, but does anyone else have this? :( |

They will fall out. Posie had this, too. They wanted to pull her baby teeth when we got her spayed at 6 mo, but I had never heard of it and thought that would be a bit too much for her to handle. It took over a year, but they eventually fell out. The vet said to play tug of war and give her lots of chewing toys to play with. I bought some dog teethers that you can put in the freezer to soothe her gums as she chews. Baby teething rings would probably work the same. The vet said that we would need to get her teeth pulled if they didn't fall out on their own by the time she was a year old. We waited it out. It took about 1 yr. 2mo. She seems to llike the bat-shaped puppy teether. It stands up on its own and she would anchor it with her paws and chew it until it wasn't cold anymore. I bought 2 and switched them out overnight in the freezer. Hope this helps! tug o war My husband would pick her up by her stuffed animals, but I DON'T recommend that! Just pull gently on her favorite stuffed animal or toy and she'll pull back. It will take a while to happen and you may not even see the teeth, but you'll be able to tell that they are disappearing. We could see one of her last teeth when it was loose, but chose not to pull on it. It took a few days, but she worked it out. |
Wembley had this and the vet told me that she should definitely have them pulled because the extra teeth may mis-shape her mouth. She was spayed at 6 months, but the extra teeth were not yet an issue. She is now 11 months, and she had the teeth extraction 2 weeks ago. It went very well. She went in in the morning, and was ready to come home in the afternoon. They extracted 4 teeth, and they told me it was good I did it, because at her age, it was getting too late for the teeth to come out on their own. The surgery is very easy, they told me, because the roots on baby teeth are not very long, so the teeth are pulled without too much pressure. Anyway, her mouth looks great now, she doesn't pierce her toys anymore like she used to with her extra teeth, and her recovery took no more than one day. Hope this is helpful. Maggie had 8 of them...all on the bottom as I recall, and we had them pulled when we had her spayed. The problem with just leaving them in is that the double row serves as a trap for food (unless you want to try flossing) which leads to premature decay and loss of the permanent teeth. It really is worth doing ... scariest thing (for me anyway) is the anesthesia issue. The tooth pulling doesn't seem to bother these little ones too much. |

food trapping i agree about the food trapping. my vet didn't mention that. i hope that we don't have any problems with her teeth in the long run since we let them fall out naturally. |
...I've noticed the same thing with my Comet. It happened as his adult teeth started to fill in. The extra row of teeth are falling out on their own. |
