Yuppy Puppy Tofu Dinner
 
1 1/2 cups whole wheat pasta, cooked
1 1/2 cups firm tofu, diced small
1 T. Olive Oil
1/4 cup grated fresh zucchini
5 grated baby carrots (the bigger ones)
1 1/2 T. Healthy Powder
1/2 tsp soy sauce
Parmesan or Cheddar cheese, to top

If pasta is a larger shape, cut up until in a manageable size for your yorkie to eat. Mix all ingredients together in medium bowl. Sprinkle with a little cheese and serve. Makes 3-4 cups.

Plus, I added 150 IU Vitamin E and 1 tsp. bone meal for extra supplements.

I made this tonight, and Emma & Milli love it!

1 ripe banana
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup oatmeal

Mash bananas and peanut butter, stir in oatmeal.
Chill 1 hour.
Make into appropriate sized snacks for your pup.
Place in container, store in refrigerator (about 3 days) or freezer (probably 7, but they never last that long around here...).

Note: The original recipe called for wheat germ, but we use oatmeal. We also use natural/no-sugar-added peanut butter. We use a dogbone shaped cookie cutter to shape the pupsicles!

I have an idea.

1.Get some dry food(1 bowl).
2.Get carrots(1/2 will be enough),peas(about 20 peas if they are frozen leave then to get normal temperature) ,some fruit or vegtables.
3.Do about 40ml of water to the dry food (A little and leave it till step 5)
4.Shried(spelling?)the carrots and add then to the dry food
5.Leave the carrots for a few minutes in the water for taste.
6.Wait till the dry food drank the water.
7.Add peas
8.If you have any other vegtables put them into the bowl
9.Mix everything.
10.TADA! You have a delicious and healthy meal for you pup

As a dessert you can give your dog 1 or 2 long peas.

I have a better version then the other recipe (with measurements)

Serves about 2-3 yorkies.
Mine serves 1 chihuahua, 1 yorkie pup and one 7kg dog

1.Get some dry food(90g).
2.Get 1 carrots,peas(15g) ,some fruit or vegtables.(somtimes I add 2g of chocolate for the taste)
3.Do about 90ml of water to the dry food (A little and leave it till step 5)
4.Shried(spelling?)the carrots and add then to the dry food
5.Leave the carrots for a few minutes in the water for taste.
6.Wait till the dry food drank the water(if you do not want to wait remove the water about 2 mins after)
7.Add peas(i did rice with peas because I did not have peas)
8.If you have any other vegtables put them into the bowl
9.Mix everything.
10.TADA! You have a delicious and healthy meal for you pup

Do you know that chocolate is TOXIC for dogs? I would stop giving this immediately!

If anyone is thinking about trying this recipe-DON'T use the chocolate, for any reason! It's not worth the risk!

Agreed! Large amounts of chocolate can potentially kill your dog. YorkieSophie, instead of using chocolate, I would recommend that you substitute it with carob. It's a much healthier chocolate alternative for dogs.

i really want to make max homemade dog food and i need to know if any one has a ny recipes for a dog that needs to be on a low protine diet

I would suggest going to your bookstore or doing some research online to find a cookbook with low protein dog recipes. You'll want to make sure if you're doing low protein that your dog is getting enough of the other nutrients he needs. I do recommend Dr. Pitcairn's book, I think there are some low protein recipes in there, but I can't remember for sure...

Before you do anything, I'd talk this over with your vet, if there is a medical reason you need to go low protein.

Does Max have a liver condition?? If so, even the recipes in Dr. Pitcairn's book are too high in protein and purines for liver compromised dogs...If you're looking for a low protein recipe for a liver compromised dog, there are several. Do a search on yahoo groups for the pet group for liver shunt and mvd...There are a couple of recipes on there. Otherwise, here is a link to some other recipes that you can try that are supposed to be safe for liver compromised dogs, but it all depends on whether or not your dog has UTI or bladder stone/crystal problems. If Max does, then, use egg or cottage cheese or tofu or anything like that in place of chicken or cod.

how to prevent food from spoiling??
 
Hello Everyone,
I have been reading the posts on home cooked recipes for our ever so precious yorkies. I currently have a male yorkie who is 4 months as of today. Currently he is eating Canidae and he likes it a lot, hes been on it for about 1 month now. But I notice that every now and again he scratches in the same spot and I'm sure it is not fleas because we put advantage on him just in case if he gets fleas and he hasnt been outside yet because he is still getting the rest of his shots. I would like to start giving my yorkie skipper home cooked food but my only problem is during the day when I go to work can I just leave the food out or will it spoil? How would I do this if I work during the day and during the day he is in his playpen until I get home but it can get hot where I live at times. Even though skipper has a fan to keep him cool what about the food since it is cooked food and the temperature may get a little hot and he is still a puppy so he needs to eat 3 times a day? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent the food from spoiling?

Maybe he could go to twice a day feedings now. I think your best bet is maybe to just feed him a small amount in the morning before you leave...then the larger portions later. Taylor is 17 months old and I home cook for him. I give him half in the morning and the other half in the evening. He is doing great on the diet that I make for him, and he seems to gobble it down.
