Livers and Gizzards I read on here somewhere that its good to feed them organ meats. Is this something they need every day mixed in with their meals or use it as the meat/protein in a meal occasionally? And is chicken organ meats better than beef organ meats? |
My vet told me once a week to give organ meats but I have friends that do it everyday. I am hesitant on the liver. There is SO much liver in treats and foods and liver is the most toxic organ in the body...so unless you know that the animal who had that liver was fed organic and pesticide free...I wonder if it can transfer those toxins into my dogs body. Some vets belive this and some don't. The vets who do recommend just doing the gizzards. suz |
wow this is the first I heard that...but thanks for the heads up! |
What about hearts? I bought a package of chicken gizzards and hearts. And is it better to boil or broil them, or does it really matter? |
I have no idea how "good" this is for them but I had to say that my grandma used to cook livers and gizzards for their two toy poodles all the time! I thought it was gross but if it's good for them, I guess she was right. |
With the threat of mad-cow disease, hormones and chemicles, it's risky. If you want ground red meat then buy free rang. If your looking for another protein, then consider tofu, which is also easier for your pet to digest. With a little flavoring like low-sodium soy sauce or meat drippings, most dogs will accept tofu. I add it to eggs when I scramble them for my dogs. |
