Is this a good guideline? I've been searching online for recipes for home cooking and I found something at dogiebag.com. It's supposed to be a daily feeding guideline that he uses for his boxers. Does it sound pretty good for our Yorkie"s. 1/4 lb meat (skinless chicken, ground beef, ground turkey, lamb, boneless fish, or sustitute 3 eggs or 1/2 c.low fat cottage cheese) 1 cup carbs (rice, potatoes or macaroni) 2 (1/2 - 1 c cooked) veggies (broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, carrots, squash, or peas) After cooking these, I mixed them together and scooped out 1/2 c. servings and put them in freezer bags to freeze. I did a batch of chicken, macaroni and mixed veggies (carrots, green beans, corn) and another batch of steak, eggless noodles, and mixed veggies (green limas, green beans, carrots). I'm really trying to get the hang of this, because I only want the best for my baby and I'm sick of hearing nearly every day about another food or treat being recalled because of poor inspections, and/or unsanitary conditions. I've got to get things settled because I go out of town the end of this month for a week and will have to leave my Sparky in the care of my daughter. I want to make sure he's eating well and in a routine so I will worry a little less (or is that even possible?) |
come on!!!! I can't believe no one is replying to my post. Where are all the home cookers? I would like some input. PLEASE! |
I don't really know anything about cooking period butit seems like a good meal. |
I've had to cook for my babies before, and would like to get started doing this again. From what I can tell, those guidelines look pretty good. Are you going to give them any kind of supplement? I'm not sure if it's necessary, but you might look into that also. |
Yes, the website says if your pet will be eating only cooked food that you prepare that he recommends a bonemeal powder called Solgar (he says it has B12) and he recommends 1/2 tsp per 25 lbs (so I guess for a 7 lb Yorkie, it would be about 1/8 tsp) and a multivitamin/mineral supplement. I have another question: the website says this is a daily feeding guideline for a 20 lb dog (1/4 lb protein, 1 cup serving cooked carbs, 2 (1/2 - 1 cup) servings veggies. I used the amounts to cook the meal, then divided it into 1/2 cup servings. Would Sparky be getting the proper amounts of protein, carbs and veggies with this mixture or do I need to increase/decrease anything? What is the ratio other "home cookers" use? |
