How much cottage chs / yogurt / boiled chicken? Hi, My Marcel is a tiny fella, currently 1.4 lb. at 17 weeks. He has kibble available at all times, Nutrical am/pm (usually). I want to ensure he gains as much weight as he can, while he can - I'm hoping to get him to 3 lbs., and I think I'll be lucky if we get there. Anyway, am feeding boiled chicken 3x week (about a 1/4 c., is that the right amount?) and want to add cottage cheese and yogurt. How much cottage cheese should I offer at one time, what is an apropos "serving" for his size? How much yogurt? Should it be plain yogurt? Should I feed chicken every day? Is this too much protein overall? SO many thanks! Ann |
Are you giving him just chicken or mixing it with his kibble? I would think 1/4 C of just chicken is way too much for his tiny size. I home cook for my girls and their boiled chicken gets mixed with brown rice, sweet potato, asparagus and carrots and they only get 1/4 C total between them - they are 4 lbs. I also use yogurt and I buy the Stoneyfield Organic with 6 live, active cultures. It is the active cultures that make the yogurt good for their bellies. I buy either the plain or vanilla, depending on what the store has. My girls each get a heaping tablespoon daily. Neither one of them like cottage cheese, so I don't use that, but I would think less than a tablespoon would be good for his tiny body. Hope this helps. |
I just gave him some chicken - it's not 1/4 cup - it's actually about 1-1.5 tbsp. - a tinier serving than I thought! |
My girls are 8 pounds and 7 pounds. They each get 1/4 cup of food for breakfast, then yogurt & fruit for lunch and 1/4 cup of food for dinner. Your baby should have maybe a teaspoon or two of food every 3 hours right now. Yogurt can be one of his meals. |
