Yorkie Teeth!
 
What is it with Yorkies and baby teeth? I brush Vinnie's teeth everyday but there is no getting even a look at those pearly whites, stubborn little guy. So today while he was napping on me he yawned and I thought, wow, my dog has two rows of teeth on top. Is this normal??? I saw another post with a lot of replies about getting baby teeth pulled, but wow,6 and 7 at a time? What gives with Yorkie teeth?

Pretty normal, how old is he? If his adult canines are in, time to see the vet for dental work. Can ruin a bite if you wait too long..

He's 5 months old. I can't believe this is normal? How odd?

its not just yorkies, it usually occurs in lots of small breeds. their mouths are just so small and cramped so it usual for them to have to have teeth pulled.

you can have the vet pull them when he goes in to get neutered since he is still young

Not odd at all, some will double row them, some will only retain a few.....If you're planning on nuetering have it done at the same time.

My vet recommends neutering at 7 months, it's ok to wait till then to address the teeth?

Yes Chachi was neutered at 7 months and thats when his teeth were pulled

Wiggle them around, if he'll let you, some will fall out on their own, the other's can wait until nuetering time, that is unless you begin seeing his bite go off....then I wouldn't wait.

My Boy had 12 teeth pulled tuesday when he was neutered. He did great came home 4 hours later. doing great.

Bobbi had 7 pulled Tues. He did fantastic. His breath doesn't stink anymore.......I am so happy for him and I :)

Siu Pao's baby teeth was pulled today, a total of 4 baby canines. He is 9++ months and its about time to get them out. The roots of the canine baby teeth were really deep I don't think they'd ever come out on their own.

Wow Jessy :D 7 is quite a number hehe. I also took Siu Pao's teeth home and the vet tech gave me a weird look when I requested them haha. They didn't even bother to clean them before giving it to me..I will post them after I take some good pictures heheheh. When I take a close look, I can see all the flesh stuck on it...eeeewww

I had set a dental appt for lil miss yorkie to remove her top and bottom incisors. We raw feed our dogs so they are given knuckle bones to chew away. While I was out of town for 3 weeks she lost her bottom baby teeth; this morning she lost her top baby tooth, yay! One more to go...that'll save me $105.:D I did try tugging on them but it felt weird and she kept looking at me like I weird.

Yikes!!! :eek:

I bet we are more terrified than the patients themselves!! Bobbi was back to his normal self and chewing away the very next day.........I of course was treating him like he was on his death bed :D

Very normal. My little ones top two teeth, over the other two teeth fell off all by themselves... unless of course she biting on her toys, which might of helped. Better smile lol :P

Adult teeth have come in. Baby teeth may yet fall out. Most teeth are in by 6mos. If still there in month or two see your vet.

When adult teeth begin to erupt rhe baby teeth begin to be resorbed. That's why they fall out and also why they look shorter.
