Coughing Yorkie - any suggestions? Wilson started this horrible cough a couple of days ago. Going to see the vet next wednesday. He's always had what the vet called a 'post nasal drip' kind of sneezing cough (reverse sneeze) but this is much worse. Am afraid it's a collapsing trachea? Any info experiences anyone can give is much appreciated (treatments, supplements etc..) HE also gets season allergies April - August. I posted some video of him coughing at you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEYqbEGpJgg |

What would a collapsing trachea sound like? I am interested to know cause I am worried about my punky. I explained teh sound to my vet and he and she say its a reverse sneeze |
reverse sneeze vs collapsing trachea I don't know what a collapsing trachea sounds like either - but I do know a reverse sneeze bc he has had that since he was born. It's much 'wetter' - if that makes sense. Almost like he is gurgling water a little - this new sound is a dry honking - i actually have a few videos of him doing the coughing that has just started a few days ago http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Wonka1970 Sometimes it starts when he is just sitting still (ie no activity/excitement or drinking water- like with the reverse sneezing). I am sending this video to the vet so hopefully will figure it all out on Wed. |
I watched the video and my older yorkie who will soon be eight does the same thing and has for a couple years. She does it when she get excited or is playing. The vet said she needs to lose weight, (she does) and that would help.I am anxious to see what you find out. |
I have a maltese with allergies that did alot of sort of hoarse coughing and it was allergies. They did a chest xray which was ok said to give childrens benadryl and gave me some medication, can't remember what it was. I also had a yorkie that had a real problem with coughing especially when he was excited and it was his heart we got medication for that and it really helped. Jackie |
My yorkie Lulu coughs very similar to that when she get tonsilitis. She gets it about twice a year and it is easily treated with antibiotics. I can always tell now when she is getting sick because she will cough many times a day. Like 15 to 20 bouts of coughing that last for minites each time. When the vet examines her she says she can see her tonsils are infected because they pop out of the pockets and can easily be seen when looking down her throat. |
My little Yorkie (Crickett) has allergies. Our vet has given her allergy shots, but I am worried about overdoing them because they contain steroidsl. Crickett has always made "frog" - "croaking" sounds, but all of a sudden she's making the croaking sound a lot more. I can usually hold her/comfort her and she stops. Anyone else have this problem? |
