Can Bully Stix be broken in half? Hi, Thinking about buying some NON-recall (geesh) bully sticks for the first time and thought I might try buying the 6 inch (bc I found a good deal), but them breaking them in half - can that be done or are they too hard? Thanks! Ann |
You know, I actually tried that once..it didn't work. I would just leave it alone because I get more worried with smaller pieces..yaknow?? |
Glad I asked - bc there are some 3" sizes for sale - do you think this is too small (it says they're ideal for small dogs)??? Many thanks Ann |
I know of some people who have bought the really long ones and "cut" them into the lengths they want. You could probably do that. I don't know how long they are though. Wow! 3inches seems pretty small....I think the smallest I have seen was 5inches. - that seems to be the right size. Good luck! |
YOu'd need a band saw:laugh: They're TOUGH! I just give the girls the biggest ones I can find, it's usually cheaper that way anyway, and it's quite a while until you have to worry that it's too small. They seem to love having that HUGE thing:laugh: |
I like the 6 inch ones for Tatum. It's a great length for her to be able to hold. We take it away when it's about an inch long. I tried getting a 12 inch once and cutting it in half. I managed to do it but it was a huge pain in the butt! |
Better read this before giving your baby any bully sticks.................. http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2007/NEW01600.html |
I contacted eddieb on ebay that sells the bully sticks and his are in no way affected by the recall. |
i buy the 12 inch stick and when they get 3 inches i throw them away. it could be dangerous when it gets small.... |

Momiji loves her 4 inch one. I've tried cut in half the long one and I cut my finger instead...... Don't try at home!!!! |
If you have a large butcher's knife or a cleaver...that would easily cut through a beef tendon or bully stick. Not as easily to cut yourself, as you are doing a "chopping" motion, not a "slicing" motion. |
if you have an electric knife, it might work |
I buy the 12 inch ones. I used to get 6 inch ones, but I always end up throwing away the last 2.5 inches. By buying the longer size, I waste less. We did buy a 24 inch one once  . My boyfriend used a metal cutting plier type thing to cut it. But even with that it was pretty hard. |
We buy the 12 inch ones and my husband uses a saw to break them in half because they are so hard. ;) The bully sticks we buy say Bully Stick Dog Treat by RedBarn on them. I did read the link that someone posted about some of the bully sticks being contaminated. Not again!! I sure hope it's not the ones made by RedBarn.:( Does anyone know if that name brand is ok? I didn't see that name on the link. |
