Allergies/Itchies :aimeeyork My yorkie, Bailey, has been itching for the past couple of years. Herscraching wasn't too bad, and she wasn't losing hair or anything, but she would develop bumps on the skin which we later found out was infection. Any time tis happens she needs antibiotis, usually Baytril, but eventually she'll just get it again. The diet recommended by the vet was d/d salmon and potatoe which she eats readily, but I don't really think it's doing anything for her itchies. The vet thinks it's environmental but I still am suspecting the food. The vet then prescribed cyclosporine which she's been on for about 5 months...it's kept her skin clear and helped clear up some problems with her mouth (lip fold pyoderma). Now though they've found protein in her urine. All other tests (UPC, albuminum, SpG etc) which indicate serious kidney problems have come back clean. So now the vet and I think maybe it's a side eeffect of the cyclosporine so we are stopping it and retesteing her urine in a month. I'm pretty sure her itching will come back though so I have to try to figure out a diet or something that will help her if she can't go back on the cyclosporine. |
Licking her feet. Hi, my Yorkie likes to lick her feet. She does that lots. I feed her Canidae All Life Stage dog food. Before i use to give her different dog foods and she still licked her feet. Is this just a thing that dogs do or will she outgrow it? She is 8mths old. Thank you. |
lexi used to itch too, but i changed her food and started bathing her with oatmeal shampoo and cond.. and now no itches at all |

I had Minnie tested for allergy last week and I'm waiting for the results now. Minnie was itching none stop and ripping her hair out she doesn't have much of a topknot anymore but were working in it. |
I had my Pom to the dermatologist today for her bad skin lesions and I asked the Dr. about Cali who scratches her head and neck all the time to the point of matting and hair loss. I had my regular vet do the allergy testing and it came back with no known allergies. But the Dermatologust said she and most other dermatologists feel that most allergies are food allergies. So I am going to try and see if I can figure out what is making her scratch. |
Recommendations? If anyone out there had severe skin problems (infected bumps on the skin from scratching) and has been able to relieve the problem A) What food did you switch to? B) What shampoo/condition are you using? C) What itch spray are you using? And how long did it take before you noticed a difference? I've tried several oatmeal shampoo/conditioner but bathing her in general just seems to aggravate the problem... Not having much luck with the dog food either...dermatologist recommended Hill's Prescription Diet d/d salmon and potatoe....she eats it ok but haven't really noticed any improvement.... Any recommendations that you've personally tried with success would be appreciated. I suspect mine is allergic to chicken and corn (minimum) |
Have you tried adding Apple Cider Vinegar to the water yet? And, on the body? There is a GREAT thread on this right now - have you looked for it? |
