Bladder Stones in Male Bladder Stones, not Struvite. My little guy has had surgery twice for bladder stones and I need help on how to prevent this again. I have him on UD diet from Science Diet from the Vets. It has slowed down the number of stones but he has them again. Is anyone out there a vet or familiar on this problem so I can help my vet to decide what to do? :( |
just like with humans he has to drink more than the average amount of water, but as hes a dog i wouldnt know how you can go about that  |
That is one of the problems, he is not a drinker. His food has water in it but he goes to his water bowl, maybe once a day. If there is someone that knows how to solve this, please send me and e-mail. I am so hurt by his pain. Everytime they flush the urethra he has to be put to sleep. Two surgeries and still has stones. It is just not fair. :aimeeyork |
stones I had a Doxie with bladder stones, needed surgery. The vet put her on a tablet once a day..an acidifier and she never had them again. |
My old long departed Benny dog had this problem - our vet put him on a tablet that caused acid to form which solved the problem for longer amounts of time. So instead of surgery every year he only had to go in every 5-6 years. |
Name of tablet??? Thanks Julie, I thought YorkieRose said the tablet was for too much acid but maybe it is to cause more acid in the urine. Rose also said it was 20 years ago and she couldn't remember the tablet which is certainly understandable. I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday so I can more than relate :p . Is there a chance that you remember the name of the pill? I would really like to know exactly what other vets are doing to help. Every 5 or 6 years would certainly be much better than every three or four months. Thanks again, Barbara |
Benny had acid stones I would think a dog with alkaline stones would need a tablet with the opposite affect. :dog: |
