Missing Link OR Solid Gold Seameal I went to the pet store this weekend to get some supplements for Sparky, since I've decided to try and cook for him. They did not have any of the Missing Link, but they had something the associate said was better. It's called Solid Gold Sea Meal Mineral and Vitamin Supplement. It says it's for all classes of horses, dogs and cats. Has anyone heard of this and is it the best for my furbaby? And it's granular and the directions say to "mix with 1/4 " warm water in the bottom of the feed bowl. Stir to disperse evenly. Feed the following amounts twice a day mixed with the morning and evening feedings." For Sparky's weight "up to 10 lbs use 1/8 tsp." I mixed it with his yogurt and he turned his nose up at it and now he won't even eat yogurt. Is Missing Link mixed the same way.......with water into their food? Has anyone had problems getting this or any other supplement into their "brat?" I didn't have this much trouble with my two children..... |
No missing link is just sprinkled on the food |
I have been using the seameal for a while and Rex seems to be fine with it. I plan on also using Missing Link. I went by Petsmart yesterday and they only had 2 bags with expiration dates approaching. So, today i'm going to our other petsmart to see if they have any. |
Yes be really careful about the expiration date its not as effective after it expires |
I have never heard of Solid Gold Sea Meal Mineral and Vitamin Supplement.....we use Missing Link....but since I have to order it, I may try the other kind on our big dogs......they are using Missing Link w/ glucosimine (sp) and it is kind of pricey for a bag big enough for three dogs (80-100lbs)!!! |
A couple people on here use the seameal. I believe most use ML. |
I'm using the SG Seameal and also the Yucca. I didn't have any visible results from using ML, so I thought I would try SG for a while and see if I can see a difference with it. I don't use 1/4" of water, though. I use just enough to moisten and activate it. Depending on the bowl you use, 1/4" could be a lot of water! One thing I like is that it has a longer shelf life than ML and it does not need to be refrigerated. (I guess that's two things, isn't it? :D ) |

Omega, Have you noticed any changes or results as of yet? |
So you have to put it in water to ACTIVATE it? Why and what is that? I can't get Sparky to eat it if I mix it in his food. He turns his nose up. I got him to eat it today mixed in peanut butter on a rice cake. Does it have to be mixed in water? |

I haven't been using it long enough yet. I have to give it at least a couple to several months. In the SG catalog that describes in detail their products, this stuff has really wonderful stuff in it with great health befefits. You only need to give small dogs 1/8 tsp. twice a day. |

The SeaMeal say to mix it with water on the container and in their catalog. I read somewhere (I'm trying to remember where) that water activates something in it. I'll try to find the info. |
I just e-mailed the company and will get back to you when I hear from them. :) |
Thanks. Does the ML have a taste or smell to it? Because so far the only way I've gotten Sparky to eat it is to mix it in peanut butter and put it on a rice cake. He's really finicky about putting stuff in his food. I tried to mix some in his yogurt and he's turned his nose up at yogurt....even though I only did it once. Now he won't even eat his yogurt! He thinks I'm tricking him. He's like an elephant.......he never forgets! Do they have vitamins that they can chew that maybe has a good taste or something? I'd have better luck pushing some pill down his throat than mixing it into his food. |

I finally heard back from Solid Gold and they said (contrary to the directions on the packaging) that you do NOT need to moisten the Sea Meal. So that is good news! :) |
