Five Seizures while we were away, why?
 

My beautiful little girl Roxy had 5 seizures while we were away from her on vacation. She is only 5 months old. We intended to take her with our family, but we went out of the country, so we thought she would be better off with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law, both of them animal lovers with no kids.
They told me she was walking around crying, then had the seizures in the middle of the night. They rushed her to the animal hospital and the hospital didn't charge them because they felt so bad for them.
The next day my in laws brought her to my vet. The vet did tests on her and kept her for the day to observe her. They found nothing.
We came home to this news and I was beside myself. Roxy was so mad at us she wouldn't even cuddle with us. Roxy is doing great now. It's been almost a week since we came home and I have not left her for a minute. No signs or symptoms of a shunt. She acts fine after eating.
My question is this: Is it possible she threw herself into the sezures because she was so upset? I know that sounds strange, but there doesn't seem to be any other explaination. Did this ever happen to anyone else?

I'm sorry I can't answer you, but I'm new, and was wondering if seizures are something common to yorkies?

hmmmmm........ thats odd, there are usually medical reasons...... but i guess if people can have seizures with no reason then i guess yorkies can too

Was she eating right? Her blood sugar could have bottomed out causing the seizure...hopefully she will not seizure again ..The male I had started to seizure at 7 months. My vet seemed to think it was because of the way his parent were bred. The breeder bred a half brother / half sister together. I had him two month when they started. I bought him for breeding and could not use him. I spent over 500.00 dollars getting him lined out ..then place him with a loving family. if you do have more problem or want to read about seizures ..there is a website

Roxy didn't have hypo. Her blood sugar was fine and she was eating. The vet checked that. Thanks for the web site. i hope it wasn't due to breeding. The breeder did own both parents. She moved away because her husband passed on, so I can not contact her :(

To answer the question about seizures being common in yorkies- I am also new! This is my 1st Yorkie. We have always had Golden Retrievers. I love my only little girl so much! I am so afraid there is something wrong that is not being detected. She is acting normal now, though. I thought I'd post in case anyone elses Yorkie ever went through this kind of thing when they went away.

Thank you for the web sites! They have a lot of info on them. The one site actually said a seizure can be brought on by stress. Maybe that's what happened when we "left" her. :(
I also didn't consider plants. My sister in law assured me Roxy didn't eat any, but you never know!
Maybe it was a one time thing. I pray it was.
