Eukanuba...Hyper Spurts? okay, so.......call me obsessive, but another Eukanuba thread was posted and I realized that the rating on this product was really low and.....well, this struck a cord with me and i started doing some more research.... hmmmmm....let me know if this sounds crazy to anyone.... Bentley has been on Eukanuba puppy since we brought him home for the first time 3 weeks ago. He has no issues gulping it down, no issues with runny poops *he goes 3-4 times a day*.....they're really small like miniature logs.....but..... he seems to be OVERLY hyper...now i know Yorkies are high energy, but one minute he'll look at me, and the next he'll be running in circles for no reason, sprinting from room to room *and i DO mean FAST*, then standing still the next minute. He does this every night....it's WEIRD to watch...I almost want to get it on digital cam so that I can post a video here for you guys to see...it's just REALLY random the way he has hyper spurts.... I'm wondering if it's the Eukanuba....and I'll be gosh darned if I didnt buy the LARGEST bag because: 1) The place where i bought him told me that's what i should feed him 2) Eukanuba was all over the TV *hitting head against wall*.... 3) Eukanuba was all over the blasted TV *hitting HAND against wall*... 4) Eukanuba was all over the damn TV *running face first into wall*.. I've requested samples of Artemis and Canidae. Hopefully the samples will get here soon.... But..has anyone else switched from Eukanuba Puppy to something else only to find that the hyper activeness dwindled a little? Is anyone STILL using Eukanbua Puppy who is experiencing these hyper fits too? |
*sidenote* maybe he'll also stop the itching as well *corn* |
garsh...just me huh? lol |
My boys do that too... haha they are on NutroMax lamb & rice dry kibble. They are 1.5 years old. Just when I think they are settling down for the night, they jump off the couch and go ballistic! Running like mad men, playing rough with each other... its hilarious! But I think its normal! Sometimes its just 1 word or a look I can give them that sets them off into nuts-ness like that. :D Oh yeah, my mom has a 4 year old Shih Tzu who does the same thing! She's on Nutromax also! |
i was concerned about the same thing.. but i was feeding missy pro plan for puppies... then i read an article online that the food would cause hyperness if there's too much un needed carbs in the diet... so i looked at the ingredients, and voila, that was the problem... now missy's on chicken soup for the pet lovers soul puppy formula (which btw was cheaper than pro plan!! but harder to find) and although she's still very very active, she's not CRAZY hyper!!! now i can see her activeness is at the normal level... still too active for me!! hahah but i know she's ok.. on proplan, she'd get hyper then totally crash out... now she's active, and can stay up for a while and doesn't have a "sugar rush" I say change the food.. but that's my opinion, i too bought the big bag of pro plan... so at first i mixed them up to ween her off the pro plan, then now i some times use it as treats... really tho, there's way too much of it, and i'm still mixing it at like 85% chicken soup and 15% pro plan... will do that until it's finished... |
Bobbi was fed Eukanuba at the breeder's and I did to the first 2 weeks I got him until I weaned him off. Honestly, he has been the same when it comes to activity. He did have killer dandruff and he was scratching so much so I don't feed him anything with corn. It has gone away. I really can't tell you what made it go away since he is also on missing link and fish oil as well. Before finding YT, my almost 5 yr old toy poodle was exclusively fed Eukanuba. I too thought it was the best out there......after all, that's what show dogs eat right?  (as seen on tv). My poor girl had the driest coat. It looked and felt like one of those brillo pads to scrub your cast iron pots and pans. She now eats Canidae and I swear to you that her coat has changed dramatically. It came out true black (not graying at is was before), her skin has no dandruff, and her coat feels like a ball of cotton (I am not exaggerating either). She has never looked prettier than now. She is healthy, lively and acts like a puppy again. Now, I am not advertising Canidae either (some dogs may not do as well on it) but only sharing MY experience. Bobbi is a puppy still but his coat is coming in very nice in my opinion. Lastly, my rescued cat has a coat to die for. He used to eat Ekanuba as well. He now eats Felidae. Again, the change is truly awesome. It literally glistens and I so with I had one strand like his. The shedding has dramatically reduced. Before it was falling out like crazy and now I brush him daily and he doesn't shed nearly as much. I believe that whatever you decide to feed should be up to you. I personally will never feed by-products and other 'bad' things. I am contemplating leaving Canidae and starting home cooked too. Even though they are doing extremely well on it, I think it's what you feed. I can feed just as good ingredients if I cook so I don't expect their coat or health to be affected (hope I make sense). Good luck  |
One more thing.......... Forgot to mention..........if you do plan to change don't wait until she eats that huge bag. Donate it to the shelter and keep a little to mix with the new stuff until weaned. In my humble opinion, my baby's health, well-being and just about everything is worth more than whatever the largest bag of Eukanuba may cost ;) If you do decide to try something else, let us know if you notice a difference in hyperactivity ;) Good luck |
