How much to feed per day?? Hello! How much should I be feeding Izzy per day? He's 7 months and weighs 4.5 lbs, so at this stage he should be fed twice a day, right? If so, how much should I give him per feeding? I cannot get an accurate measurement looking at all of the dog food labels. Most of them say under 10lbs. Should he be getting 1/2 cup per feeding or per day? Im afraid that Im feeding him too much...he's not complaining of course. |
yea how much do you feed cause I don't know etheir I'm going to BUMP this |
It completely depends on what food you're feeding. If you're feeding a very high quality dog food, then they probably need less than if you're feeding a lower quality food. What does it say on the bag of your dog's food? Dogs under 10 lbs should be fed...how much does it say? And what are you feeding? |
I was wondering about this as well... |
I feed free choice. Unless they are overweight, then I'd have to do something different. But I've never had one overweight. |
I also free feed with dry food :) My doggies never overeat, but not all dogs are like that. |

Princess Ruby Ambra Hi my little girl is 3&1/2 pounds and very fussy. i feed her ROYAL CANIN and for her weight it says about 1/4 cup per feeding. we add a little wet CEASER dog food to it. I hate using wet since this pet food ordeal, but I have checked the list many times.we are always afraid she is not eating enough. We also give her NUTRA CAL.this comes in a tube and you get it from the VET. This adds extra nutrients and is suppose to enhance her appetite..Thanks, AMBRA'S MOM |
As long as you're following directions on the bag, then your baby should be just fine :) If she's extremely active, she may need a little more, but it sounds like you're doing a good job. Miko is a very picky eater, and when he was a pup, I worried if he was eating enough. Here's a tip...Measure out how much your doggie is supposed to have and put it in his food bowl in the morning. If he has leftovers by the next morning, measure and find out how much he didn't eat. If he finishes it, you know he's eating enough. Good luck! |
Karla - with the new food you are using, I would make sure that with the meat added, he is getting no more than 1/4 C of food per feeding, provided you are using the same food for each feeding. Sissy & Angel share a little more than 1/4 C of the food I make for dinner, then they get their yogurt for breakfast and snacks of small bites of fruit as well as their treats for pottying during the day. |

I used to free feed him but this food is not dry kibble. Ive been feeding him in the morning and during the day I leave kibble out but he doesnt even eat it...then I feed him when I come home from work. I also leave treats for him while I am gone. |

Oh, yes it makes a big difference :) That's completely different from regular kibble. If you have any questions, contact them. Good luck! |
