Swallowing Food Whole Tucker just loves feeding time and seems to literally inhale his food. This morning he spit up a bit of his breakfast a short while later and the food was whole (Nutro puppy lamb and rice). Not chewing can't be good for him. How can I encourage him to slow down and chew. I know with a horse, they tell you to put some large rocks in their dish with the grain so they have to slow down and pick around for their feed, but what can I do for Tucker? He is otherwise healthy. He is almost 7 months and weighs in the 5 lb. range. Julie and Tucker :aimeeyork |
I have heard of putting golf balls in the food bowl |

How often do you feed him? Perhaps less food fed more often might allow him to know he will not go hungry. |

I'm leery about adding more frequent meals as we had some potty training issues when fed more frequently that are so much better now (never pooped on any kind of schedule - now he is pretty predictable), plus it won't always be a given that I'll be home at the right times to add more meals. I have recently upped his quantity a bit according to his age and weight. He's energetic and at a good weight for his frame - he just loves his food. Thanks, Julie |
MY Izzy doesn't chew her food all the time either. She just licks it up and swallows it. She doesn't eat fast though, just doesn't chew it for whatever reason. |
