Poopy Problems Hello everyone, I am new to YorkieTalk so this is my first thread. I have a 4 month old Yorkie puppy that has been having problems going poop. He struggles to get it out and stays in the "pooping" position for a while. It looks like his butt is protruding or swollen. Also, whenever I hold him he gets poop on my clothes. It seems like sometimes it just comes out for no reason. I hate to see him like this. Does anyone have any advice or ideas? Thanks so much :( |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk. :wavey: He maybe constipated. You can try giving him pumpkin. You can use can or the baby kind also. Cordelia went through this and my vet asked if I had cats and if I gave them Petromalt Hairball Remedy. If not sometimes try poop will get stuck there and also block poo to come out. |
What might help with the poop on the clothes is washing him like you would a baby, after pooping. That's what I do to Coco. Everytime she poops I wash her butt with warm water, to make sure poop particles are washed off. It's cleaner and they smell better. I also have groomed the hair away from her toosh so it's cleaner. |
Simon has this problem occasionally! He has a sensitive tummy and gets constipated often. The vet gave me a mild laxative pill to give him when he tends to be straining and he is all better after. I know how hard it is when you have to watch them struggle. I have also had to wash his bottom with a washcloth and warm water too. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon! |
Maggie is almost 4 months old. Sometimes she stays in the poop position a little longer than usual. She then moves over just a few inches and finishes. I always go out with her, so I don't have any choice but to notice if her poo is hard or soft. If it's somewhat hard, I will give her a little cube of apple. If she didn't get a clean poo, then I wipe her little tush with a pre-moistened toilet wipie. They work great. |
A small amount of mineral oil in his food should resolve the problem. You might also change his diet. |
We have used a small amount of liquid parafin in the past - that works well. But best to try and get the diet right so you don't need to use anything at all. |
Put a teaspoon of oil or youghurt in their food and you will it helps - it's even good for their fur :) |
dianne The same thing has happend to me over the past 2 days my baby is 9 weeks old and when I got her the fist night she was a bit constipated but the breeder said it might be a bit of stress of a new home.I kept her on the same food as the breeder did so I new it wasnt that.anyway she came right and then I noticed that she was trying to eat her poop so when I rang my vet the vet nurse said she could be lacking something in her diet so Ive changed to a different food and shes a bit constipated again but when you change foods you have to do it very gradually like 75% old food 25% new food. well thats what I was told .hope this is abit of help :) dianne :) |

I love Vilette you guys, she's always there to help! :D and plus her dogs coats are so nice i'm jealous!! :) I'm no pro or anything! but I do know that Pumpkin can help with Both Diarrhea and Constipation. It has special Fibers in it that help sooth the stomach, help with the consipation and diarrhea. And this is for real Pumpkin, not the pumpkin pie filling if you are all wondering :) |

definitely keepping that little bottom groomed up will help. What are you feeding him? Chewy had problems until I changed his food and things are fine now. |
