Canidae or Merricks is the question I know there are countless threads about what food is best! I read for hours yesterday! I have narrowed it down to one of the 2. Any input? Has anyone tried both and liked one over the other? I have a puppy and a 3yr old so kind of like the Canidae idea for that reason. But Merricks looks....well....yummy really!! |
Merricks is for all life stages too :) I feed it to my 8 mo old maltese, and she loves it. It's made with organic chicken :) |
So much for my extensive research huh?? Duh...I didn't realize it was also for all ages! I did ask for samples of Merricks too but I think I will be buying dry food before it gets here. Thanks! |

Where are you seeing that Merricks is an all stages food? I went to their website and don't see that anywhere. I am also looking for an all stages food. My babies tried Canidae and they like it but they threw up. So I am still looking. Any other all stages foods out there that anyone knows about? :D |
i was feeding morgan cowboy cookout and she ate it alright, then the next bad i bought was the turducken one and she didn't eat it as well. I read on YT how lots of people are very very happy with what canidae did for their dogs coats so i figured i'd try it out on morgan. i got some free samples which she just gobbled up so i bought a big bag. she's still liking it so i'm going to be keeping her on it as long as poss |
I feed Canidae All Life Stages. My dogs (seven yorkies and Boo the Boxer) all have GREAT coats and are extremely healthy. There are several really good dog foods available. Which one you go with is a personal choice. |

I am just now switching Gracie from a mixture of brands to Merrick's dry. She likes most of the canned flavors of Merrick's except for cowboy cookout. I bought her the dry Turducken and she went nuts over it. To my surprise there were real peas and bits of carrots and apples in there! Merrick's does make a Puppy Plate both dry and canned. |
Why not both!? :D |
On my bag of Merricks, it says for all life stages :) |
Oh, I just found it. On the website, if you read through the FAQs, under canned foods where it talks about puppy plate, it mentions that all their foods are for all life stages. |

My dogs are currently in the process of switching from Canidae to Nature's Variety. I was like you, I did an absolute ton of researching the different foods. Canidae is an excellent food and our dogs do just fine on it, but after researching my heart out, I discovered that Nature's Variety is even better. Whichever one you decide on, you are doing great beause these are all good foods! Tammy |
2 Attachment(s) I feed mine Canidae, I love that it's an all life stages food and the ingredients in it are second to none in my opinion. I mix the regular formula with the chicken and rice formula and Jaden and Jewelina just gobble it up and their coats are SUPER shiny!!   |
I've been researching different food for my dogs too. I e-mailed a few companies for sample and the only one that sent one was Canidae. My two dogs seemed to like it, so that's the brand I plan on buying once their current food runs out! :) |
2 Attachment(s) I posted these pics in the MinkSheen thread, but you don't get shine like this from shampoo alone -- you grow a good coat from the inside out and then take care of it with a good quality shampoo. Remember, Peppy is a "farm" dog and is allowed to go outside and play, under constant supervision, of course. He rolls in the grass, chases barn kitties, generally acts like a dog. Just imagine what his coat would look like if he were kept inside and his coat wrapped. :) |
Wowsers!!! That coat is gorgeous, chattiesmom! |
