I Am So Confused , I Dont Know What Is Good Anymore After This Recall

Hi! I've been home-preparing food for my 2 boys for over 4 months now. I started due to itching problem. Itching is 95% gone!

I felt such relief not to have to worry about commercial dog food and recalls. We are not there at the factory to see what really goes on.

At first, feed 1/3 protein, 1/3 veg, and 1/3 grain or startchy veg. It's a good time to go grain-free now. Feed what you eat, steak, hamburger, chicken, eggs, fish, peas, carrots, squash, bok-choy, yams, potatoes, stringbeans, oatmeal, brown rice, lentils, beans, pumpkin, cinnamon, cod liver oil, olive oil, sunflower oil. Dogs do not have the necessary enzyme to digest milk, so if you want to try yogurt or cottage cheese, or cheese, do it very sparingly.

To judge amount to feed, try to equal what was in his bowl.

Cook all fish and hamburger and pork. Steak meats can be fed raw. Chicken can be fed raw. Vegs have to be grated or sliced very fine. They can be steamed. Overcooking destroys nutrients. All grains must be very well cooked. Soft. Dogs do not need grains and they are not easily digested. I use only brown rice cakes as a treat. I use lentils, beans, peas, and potatoes.

Dogs can have fruit. But, not much. Sugar feeds yeast.

I give an excellent quality vitamin/mineral/amino-acid complex everyday. Get the best vitamin you can. Calcium is very important. I wash fresh eggshells, dry them, and when I have about a dozen, I bake them in my oven for 10 mins. at 350 degrees to kill any bacteria, then I grind them in a coffee grinder and store in fridge. I use 1/4 tsp each day, but my guys are big, 14 and 20 lbs!

For treats, I make my own "cookies" from non-grain flour, pumpkin, cinnamon, banannas, eggs, oil, and water. I had no recipe, I just experimented. They love them. Next time, I'm using tapioca flour. Look in your organic market.
Organic everything is best.

I put my time in doing my research. Start on the web. Amazon has great books. Look under natural pet care, holistic pet care, feeding natural, feeding raw, etc.

You'll feel sooooooo much better doing this. They will love it. My guys never turn down food. They get so excited about what's to eat, they start whining and licking me.

Variety of foods over time is the answer. There are so many good supplements out there. I used to give too many at first. I cut them all out except for vitamins, calcium, and ground flaxseed meal.

Remember, they need omega 3, from fish oils or flaxseed oil or meal. They digest proteins and fats best. So, use oils at each meal.

Whole Dog Journal is a great resource, and only 20 dollars a year for a subscription.

This morning they ate sardines with bones, cooked chopped kale, grated carrots, olive oil, small amount of pureed pumpkin to mix with vit, calcium, and flax, and a bit of brown rice cake. Wesley will not drink plain water, so I put hamburger in distilled water and simmer to get broth.

My guys never drank tap water. Only spring and distilled.

Congratulations and best wishes. It will take a month or so to make it effortless, but don't give up. You'll have furbabies in the best of health!

thats sick 14-20 pound yorkie... please just give them away you shouldnt feed them that much... do you know how much there supposed to weigh... i guessed not...so go get some help for the dogs sake!

Hey now... that's not fair. There are a bunch of people on YT with larger Yorkies. Is she supposed to starve them just because they're larger? A woman my height should weight around 140lbs... but not all women do!! Some weigh 240lbs at my height, and some weight 100lbs. As long as her dogs are happy and healthy, that's all that matters.

I doubt you would say the same thing about a 3lb yorkie - and they're not within the breed standard either. Just because they're 14 & 20lbs does not by any means mean that they are fat, unhappy, or unhealthy. Some people prefer larger yorkies. We can't attack them for that.

oh ok im sorry i mistook what you meant...i thought you were in the line of them being large and you were proud they were not normal!

I wasn't the one that posted, Superpup was - they're not my dogs. I was just saying we shouldn't attack her for the size of her dogs without knowing anything about them.

I also "cook" for my girls. They get organic yogurt (1-2 Tbsp) for breakfast with their Missing Link - this has kept their tummies very healthy with all the active cultures. They get bites of fruits and veggies for snacks (bananas, papaya, mango, fresh baby carrots are favorites). For dinner, I make boiled chicken with brown rice, sweet potato, spinach, asparagus and carrots.

I started doing this at about 9 months with Sissy. She has a gorgeous coat and eyes and we have no itchies at all!! I will admit that I began this because she got very sick with Giardia and wouldn't eat dog food (of any kind). With the addition of Angel two months ago, she will now eat a little kibble, but even Angel is limited here. Kibble is mostly used as treats, or if I'm away for a few hours. We use Solid Gold Wee Bits.

We do also use some regular dog treats in teeny pieces for when they come inside from pottying. We love the Old Mother Hubbard Gimme a Kiss bones, as well as some wonderful homemade treats from go.fetch and ChattiesMom!!

I was so upset to read your comment that was totally unrelated to the thread. I was trying to encourage safe, home-prepared food, and all you saw was the weight of my precious boys!

My two Yorkies are purebred with a long champion pedigree. Both parents were under 7 lbs, which, by the way, is an average weight. I paid $4000 for them. The breeder knew that they would be large and he felt not many people would want them, and that's what appealed to me. They needed a great home and a great Mommy, and that's what they got!!

They are gorgeous with "proper" coats and coloring. They are extremely healthy, energetic, loving, loyal, playful, no problems.

Members here at YT do not make comments such as yours. We are here to offer support, guidance, love, empathy, sympathy, experience, and information.

I have NEVER attacked anyone like you did to me, and I think you should consider removing yourself from this forum.

I am a member of another Yorkie group, and there is a 30lb one there, and there is a 25lb one here.

Just like humans, parents of one "type", like tall and thin, can and do produce human children who are short and stocky. This happens in the canine species, too.

I never have to worry about breaking legs, crushing them if they sleep with you, and many other factors that parents of the tinies do. There are many benefits to having a larger Yorkie. If you weren't so closed-minded, you would know that.

Yikes! Easy now :D Some yorkies are bigger in size. That doesn't mean that they are big fat furry balloons :p hehe Obviously she takes excellent care of her babies bc she works so hard to feed them right and they are probably just 'tea pot' yorkies like my Harley! ;)

Don't worry about it! If I've learned anything on this forum it's not to let one person get you down:D There are way too many wonderful people on here to focus on one bad egg. You are an awesome yorkie mom and I love large yorkies! Everyone always says Harley isn't a 'real' yorkie (whatever that means :p ) bc he weighs 10lbs! Wow! What a chubby one he must be lol In reality he is perfectly healthy and I don't have to worry about him slipping through grates on the sidewalk! haha JUST KIDDING! Teenie yorkies are cute too :animal36

It's very hard to take anyone's mean comments about your child or furchild not being "normal". How crude. I was heartbroken to think that someone who supposedly loves animals could speak that way about anyone else's. I'm sure these people would never visit a shelter to adopt any of the "rejected", "sick", "imperfect" or "mixed-breed" pups and pooches.

just asking because i keep seeing brown rice. i feed skoshi boiled chicked and white rice with royal canine kibble.
