Microchipping I need some advice. I am thinking of having my little boy microchipped. How actually does the system work? What is the general cost? Is it worth it? If it is worth it I don't care what it costs, I will do it. I have been holding off on sending in my AKC papers because there is a space for their microchip number. Any help? |
I have both my girls microchipped. It depends on where you live, and where you get it done as for cost. Usually it is around $25.00-$30.00, you then fill out paperwork and register them, that is another $18.00. I had mine microchipped for my peace of mind. Will it stop somebody from stealing your dog? No, but if somebody did I have a better chance of proving she is mine. If your dog is lost, it may be easier to be reunited with you, but that is only if a shelter or vet scans them. I feel strongly about it, my friends dog was stolen from her yard and she got him back a few days later because of the microchip, so I feel it is worth every penny! I had Angel's done on Thursday with her spay. |
I don't know what it cost because we had it done while one was being spayed & the other was having teeth cleaned. Don't think it cost too much though. The gave us an envelope with the chip's number on it for registering. I logged into the chip manufacturer's webside, set up an account and entered the information on there, paid a small fee and that was it. I have the paperwork in a file for easy reference, but I think the payment is a one time thing. |
I had indy microchipped on thursday when we had his second shots. they put in two, right between his shoulder blades. I kinda freaked out cause the needle was so big, so they numbed him a bit, but he still cried, about as much as he did with his shots. they then gave my my paperwork and a tag to put on his color thats says, im lost, and a blurb about having a microchip take me to be scanned etc... and that was it for us, we didnt have to go to a website or anything, and hes been fine, ha hasnt acted sore or anything. :) |
Thank you for the quick responses! I've heard the needle was pretty big! We live in the country and he is inside or on a leash if outside so I'm not too afraid of him getting stolen but if he would ever wander off somehow..... I think I am going to do it. Our breeder has all of the stuff to do it and told me to bring him over anytime. Thanks for your input!!! |
