When to get teeth pulled OK, Chloe's two bottom canines have come out on their own, and the new ones are growing in. The two canines on top still haven't come out, and today when I checked, it looks like the new ones are coming in next to the old ones. Will these push out the old ones, or is it time to get them pulled? I'm not planning on getting Chloe spayed now, so what do I do? Do they schedule these on their own, without being put under for other surgery? Thanks |
How old is she? Just about all the Yorkies I have owned needed to have retained baby teeth removed. Princeton got his out at 6 months with his neuter and Pinky will get hers out by next month at 8 months old with her spay. Seems to be very common for Yorkies. |
She'll be exactly 6 months old on Monday. |
Mine is getting 4 teeth pulled in two weeks. He is 6.5mo old. The vet said that if dogs need to get teeth pulled they usually do it when the dog gets spayed/neutered so they don't have to go in a second time. However, I'm not getting my dog neutered, instead he is getting a microchip ID implanted along with getting his teeth taken out. |
I would wait until she is a year old. Yorkies don't even stop teething until they are 7 months old. There is a very good possibility that it'll fall out. |
Thanks for all the replies and PMs. I feel better about waiting now. We'll see what happens. I hope they just come on out. |
I had two Yorkies (one died) and neither had any teeth pulled. I have a puppy being spayed next month and I think I will ask just in case. |
Howie is getting neutered on Friday and I'm debating on how many baby teeth to have pulled. All of his adult K-9's have come in, and none of the baby ones have fallen out. I figured I should pull those, but what about the others. How do I determine if they are even baby teeth still? (I've only gotten a hold of 2 that fell out). Or, should I leave it up to my vet to decide if it's needed? Thanks! |
If you are going to spay your pup you can do it at the same time. I gave chelsea bully stick (very hard) chew stick. All except one fell off after she keeps chewing the stick. Finally at 8 months, I just pulled one of them myself. Baby teeth have not root so it should be easy to pull. |

I had asked that same question to my vet and he told me to wait and see if it causes a problem with plaque buildup. Right now he's fine and is teeth don't hurt him at all. My mom's dog didn't get his teeth pulled til he was 7, so i'm not worried about it. For now I'm just going to get some of that petzlife gel and the spray.. it's supposed to eliminate tarter and plaque buildup. |
