Ever heard of this food??? Hello YT's. I tried asking this question before but didn't get any response, hopefully someone out there can help me. My yorkie came from a pet shop (i know i know but she was a gift) and the food she came with is called Holistic Health Extension Little Bites made by this company Vets Choice...i think. Anyway she really seems to like it but i'm not sure how the quality is. Nobody else seems to ever have heard of it so i'm not sure what to do. Its not hard to find or anything, we have it at my local pet shop, i guess i'm just skeptical about the quality. So my question is has anyone else ever heard of this food before?? If so, is it any good?? I was also thinking of switching to Wellness brand, is this a good brand? Any advice would really be appreciated...Thanks!! PS - Have any of you ever heard of Pegetables treats? I got some for Bailey and she loves loves loves them but i'm wondering if they're a healthy treat...considering that one of the vegetables is corn and i thought corn was bad for dogs. I'm obviously confused here. sorry its so long... |
Sorry I am no help ... I have not heard of either... |
Can you list the ingredients of that dog food on your post? I heard petgtables were really good for dogs... Dawn |
This is the food I feed my Yorkie and I get it from the breeder. I checked the ingredients against a list of what makes a good food and it looks good to me. This is the only dry food JoJo has had and he is 8 months. I haven't seen it in stores and have to go to the breeder to get it. She feeds it to her dogs as well. |
I have not heard of the first food, but the Wellness is a very good high quality food :) I have heard wonderful reviews about this food. |
I found it online. Funny thing is it appears to be made by royal canin. However, by the ingredients, it does not look to be high quality. Here's what it says for the puppy food: Ingredient Statement Ground Corn, Poultry Meal (min 15%), Corn Gluten 60, Polished Rice (10%), Animal Fat, Vegetable Pulp, Yeast, Liver Digest, Zeolite, Minerals, Linseeds, Trace Elements (included chelated trace elements), Lysine, Methionine, Vitamins (approved anti-oxidants added) YT'ers, How many red flags do you see in this ingredient list? |
Wow, that's the Vet's choice food, right? Doesn't sound very good to me. I know the Wellness ingredients are high quality though, so if you're thinking of one or the other, Wellness would probably be the way to go :) |
I've never heard of it, but if corn is the first ingredient I think I would switch to something else. If you do switch, do it gradually so as not to cause an upset stomach. |
I am reading the ingredients off of my bag of Health Extension Vet's Choice Little Bites. I don't know where the above info came from but this is what the bag says: Chicken meal, ground brown rice, brewer rice, animal fat, dried beet pulp, fish meal, flax seed, egg product, and then several vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin E, B-12, C, zinc, maganese, calcium, etc. There is no CORN listed anywhere in the ingredients, let alone the first one! |

Thanks for posting that info Lisa_C...It's good to hear from someone with first-hand experience. The info on that site must have been incorrect. |
Oh my gosh guys thanks for all your responses, i was beginning to think that it was hopeless. I'm going to list the FULL list of ingredients...and boy is it long, that are listed on my bag because it seems like the above poster either has a different food or left quite a few things out. Here we go... Chicken meal, ground brown rice, Chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and ascorbid acid and rosemary extract). Lamb meal, Dried beet pulp, fish meal, flax seed, Brewer dried yeast, egg product, organic chicken, nutradrops (Natural barley malt, B1, B2, B6, B12, Apple cider vinegar, garlic, Astragulus, ginger), trace mineral salt, DL Methione, Vitamin A acetate, D-Activated Animal Sterol (source of vitamin D-3), Vitamin E supplement, Riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Coral Calcium, Vitamin D, Magnesium, Niacin, Choline Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamin Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Ester C, Biotin, Inositol, Omega 3/Omega 6 oils, Dehydrated kelp, Polysaccharide complexes of Zinc, Iron, Manganese, copper and cobalt, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, CoQ10, DHA, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Primrose oil, Glucosamine, Colostrum, Blue/Green Algae, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and maybe four more things that i just cannot pronounce. The reason i was worried about this food, is that it just has soo much in it that isn't exactly food...if that makes any sense. There's so many supplements, i don't know if that's good or not. Either was i went to my pet store and they gave me a few samples of the wellness brand and i'm going to start mixing it in with Baileys food to see if she will eat it, she's kinda picky. I thank you all again for your reponses!! PS. Any other brands of food that you think i should consider?? |

Then that must be a different brand. I didn't see the "health extension" part. My bad. :o The one I posted was only called Vet's choice. that is what I ran a search on. It looks like two totally different brands of food. True, the one you posted looks like a pretty good quality food. I'll go look that one up. Thanks for the clarification, and sorry for the confusion :) |
Hey, that's okay! Easy mistake to make :) |
TiffnBaily, You listed all the ingredients; my bag is the same I just didn't list everything. The first few are really important, and after that there should be a lot of good vitamins and supplements. JoJo loves this food, I sometimes think about switching only because I have to drive to the breeder to get it and that is a little inconvenient. I buy a big bag and it lasts a long time! |
