Sabrina had a mini stroke!! Sunday p.m. she started with her ears twitching and carrying her head sideways, walking hunched up and licking her lips. When I'd touch her head/face she would twitch. I couldn't figure out what on earth was wrong! She wouldn't eat/drink etc. Monday a.m. to the vet and he said she acted like she had a mini stroke! She's nearly 10 years old, 4.5 pounds. He gave her some shots and said he didn't think the symptoms would keep up because it was a mini stroke. Sure enough by middle of afternoon, the twitches stopped, she was eating for me and today she's playing, etc. again. It scared me to death. I was having panic attacks. I'm retired and she's all the company I have. Just so relieved I had to tell someone. Oh - downside of her being better - now when she hears a pill bottle - she runs and hides under my bed! HA. I have started laying her pills out with mine while she hides, the she tiptoes back down the hall and I take my pills and she thinks that's it - I feed her and then grab her and get her pills down. It's sssssssooooooo funny. How smart these little darlings are. frankie - sabrina's mom |
Oh gosh, how scary!!!!!!! I am glad she is better. Hope she doesn't have to go through that again! |

I'm sooo glad she's better. How scary for you! If you wrap some deli meat around her pills, she'll gobble them up. lol I'm retiring next month. I'm sooo excited. I can't wait. Mainly to spend more time with my 2 yorkies, and of course my husband. lol My email is: spydurgurl@gmail.com if you want to "talk" more! C'ya. Ro  |
Really , really hope Sabrina will be ok . |
I hope Sabrina will soon be back to her normal self and continue to be your companion for many years to come:) I had a cockatoo that had a stroke, he recovered and had no problems after that. He was an aged bird when he had it and as of 9 yrs later never had a relapse.I hope that is the same in your case too. Good luck. dawn |

Omg totally scary, its really scary to think of how many different things that can go wrong with our fur babies :( |
Thank you all for your support.. She's still doing okay, thank you all for your support. I'm a mess, of course. Sabrina has always been a difficult pill taker, probably because she won't eat hardly anything but her very own food! It's a blessing and a curse. When I hide pills in something she has always, and I mean always, kind of nibbled with her front teeth until the pill pops out. I have tried brusweiger (that soft sausage stuff - I can't spell it), peanut butter, steak slit and pill inserted, putting in her pupperoni's, wrapping it in ham, crushing it and putting it something - hamburger - everything I can think of. She is just too smart. She has never been a "beggar" - she doesn't like people food that much, and what she eats and likes is "soft" food (that's why the tooth surgery last week). She loves fish - not breaded, not shrimp, salmon, tuna - just plain old fish, her natures balance dog food, every once in a while she'll want a taste of ham or turkey. BUT, when the Grandbabies are here - she will steal whole slices of pizza and hide them - grab weinies and run, eat cereal, cookies, drink spilt milk - I have no idea why except maybe jealousy or not wanting to miss anything! I bought a pill pusher and we get it done even in her small mouth. Thank you all for your concern. |
Hi! I'm glad to hear Sabrina has fully recovered. That must have been terrifying. Keep us posted on how she's doing. |

Sooo glad to hear she is doing well!! And my Luig is the same way!!! I will saturate his pill with peanut butter or hide it in his treat, but somehow he manages to get it out of his mouth!!!!! Luig sends lots os puppy love and kisses!!!! :luvu: :kiss2wm:  |
Try meatballs When my Bengie had his overdose he was on meds for a month. He caught onto the cheese, pnut butter, etc. tricks really fast, after one time, he knew there was a pill in it. And he is awful about taking pills. My solution was to take a mix of ground beef with a little ground pork, lightly season with salt and pepper, make a mini-meatball with the pill in side, cook and cool, and give him the meatball. He loves it so much, I think he swallows it in one or two bites and has not caught on yet!! LOL |
oh Sabrinas's mom, So scary what happened to Sabrina. Im happy that she is doing much better. :) What is a pill pusher? I hope she keeps getting better and be her old self soon. Please keep us posted. |
I'm really happy for you and Sabrina. Hang in their Sabrina mommy needs you. |
