Yorkie Food What do you feed your Yorkie?? My Furbaby is about to turn 1 in three weeks and I wanted to see what everyone else is feeding their Furbabies.. And where do you buy it?? |
we feed Fromms Duck and Sweet Potatoe and we get it from a locally owned pet store. we just started Layla on it about a month ago and she loves it and i love that it is top quality food! |
I feed Evangers moist and Nutro hard. I get them at a local feed store |
Royal Canine for yorkies |
I alternate between Merricks Dry food and Canidae All Life Stages. Both very good quality foods. I get them at a privately owned pet store. |
We are on Day 4 of feeding Nature's Variety - RAW Frozen food. THEY LOVE IT!!! |
I feed Life's Abundance and Canidae all life stages  |

This pup is too smart! He also gets boiled chix, raw veggies and whole wheat pasta and rices with flax seed cooked in organic low sodium chix broth. He is spoiled.:p |
We get our Wellness canned and dry puppy food from our local vet. |
The only food my dogs will touch (assuming they eat at all) is Royal Canin brand. And the one for "picky mini dogs" with the picture of a white westie on the bag. My Shih Tzu will only eat this, when she eats. We tried the Royal Canin Shih Tzu food and she turned up her nose at it. My Yorkie/Bichon puppy (8 months old) wouldn't eat ANY puppy food under the sun. And I tried most of em. She does like to eat the Royal Canin for picky mini dogs though. I feel badly since she is a puppy, she should eat PUPPY food. So I mix in a little bit of Cesar moist puppy food to entice her to eat. Perhaps I'll go to the Royal Canin website and request a sample of the Yorkie food to see if she'll eat that. They WILL send samples if you request it. Their website is http://www.royalcanin.us/ Both my dog and my puppy DO appreciate stealing a snack of the cats food though. Eukanuba dry for Adult cats. It's ridiculous. LOL! Then, the cats also really appreciate eating the Royal Canin for picky little dogs. So.......... I've given up yelling and stomping and trying to get them to go to their own bowls. Sigh.:scratchhe I know none of them are supposed to do this and I try my best to nip it in the bud, but it gets tiresome ya know. Thank goodness neither of them eat much. The cats (one in particular), on the other hand, is beginning to look like a German Shepherd. It's just a miracle anyone eats anything around here. LOL! If only I'd eat like my animals, I'd have no weight problems whatsoever!:( |

Mine would only eat the Royan Canin Puppy 33. Which I worried about because it is PUPPY food and mine are adults. They aren't overweight so I figured it wasn't a problem. The dogs like the small bits..they won't eat anything bigger. Then someone posted a link to some ratings on dog food quality (I don't remember where) and I was shocked to learn the expensive dog food I was giving them (not that RC isn't good-it is!!) didn't even rank in the 3-6 star ratings. I noticed among the higher quality food there was a product by Solid Gold called "Just a Wee Bit" for adult small breeds and I found a distributer right here in my town!! I went down there the next day and bought it and my dogs LOVE it! It's main ingredient is Bison of all things! The bonus is it was cheaper ($8.95 for 4 pounds) than what I was paying for Royal Canin at Petsmart! I'm very pleased so far! |
I've tried feeding everything. We're switching to Canidae, but Chloe is teething and having trouble with those hard kibbles. So for the time being, we're going to finish up our bag of Royal canin puppy 33. Plus, I made some homemade dog food to mix with it. |
You ladies are such good mommies, I had no idea you could even feed them all that OTC food. I went yesterday to a new feed store and asked them for their best brand for small breeds I can't remember what it was called but he said it was better then Science Diet which my vet pushes. The new food has Lamb and rice in it and the guy said it will make Hunter's coat even softer and shinyer then it is. He also said it is all natural ingrdients so his poo will change also becasue his body will be absorbing all the nutrients so his poo will now be solid waste material. I was like OK I'll try it, I got a packaed of wet food also a chicken and rice flavor and he absolutely loved it, he also like the new dry, I mixed it with his Iams. My baby doesn't seem picky but I figured since he is about to turn 1 he needed a new dry adult fourmula that I can slowly mix over. So thank you for all the ideas, I think I will try some carrots and other things every once in a while just to give him a special treat! |
In the 5.5 years I have been blessed with the company of my little man I have tried lots of foods and the only one he seems to like is the Royal Canin Yorkshire, the kibbles seem to be just the right size for him. I was beginning to get frustrated with trying new foods to only have him turn his nose up and walk away. Believe it or not he would go a day or two of not eating if what I put down was not to his taste!!! I give him a small handful in the morning then another small handful in the evening. Just a funny little story...I have noticed over the last couple of months that sometimes he will let his food sit, but as soon as Mommy starts to cook in the kitchen or starts to eat her self he will run over and gobble up his food  |
My puppy eats Royal Canin Puppy 33. Out of the three types of kibble I have tried so far (Natural Choice small bites puppy, Eukanuba small breed puppy and Royal Canin Puppy 33) it is the ONLY one she will eat. The catch is... she will ONLY eat this kibble when I roll the pieces to her. She thinks it's a game and she will play with them and eat them one at a time. Even then she won't eat much... and she won't even touch it if I mix it with cottage cheese or Ceasar moist. The only thing I can get her to consistantly eat is that baby food/baby cereal/half and half/karo formula, but I don't want to give it to her every day because I'm not sure how good it is for her. Is 10 weeks too young to try the RAW food? |

I don't know about the raw food thing, but I think I would be encouraging the RC 33 by leaving it out for her all day (which you probably already do)...she's tiny so she's not going to eat that much..and she'll eat it on her own eventually. Also, since she is only 10 weeks, I would continue the baby food recipe for at least another 2 weeks, but in decreasing amounts. You want her to start being hungry for the kibble. If you are going to be home, say on a weekend after she turns 12 weeks, try going without the baby food (so you can watch for any hypoglycemia signs), and hopefully she will get hungry enough to eat the RC 33. I know how it is...Pippa was (and is) such a picky eater..that's why I was shocked when she gobbled (and she hasn't ever "gobbled" anything) the Solid Gold Just a Wee Bits! I got it at "DogWatch" on Crossover...they had all kinds of cool stuff there! |

We have had Murfee on Science since we got him at 6 weeks old...3 years ago. The vet recommended it. Is Science Diet bad??? |
I just think that there are 'better' brands besides science diet. I prefer to buy food that contains no corn, no grains, no animal by-products what so ever. I have TJ and Roxy on Nature's Variety Raw Frozen food - which they love, but I do know it is not for everyone (meaning a lot of Mommies and Daddies are probably not comfortable feed raw). But I also give them kibble (just a little). I switch everytime there is need for a new bag. Right now we are on Wellness Super 5 Mix. They seem to like this one. Others have been: Merrick, Buffalo Blue, Natural Balance |
Where do I go to buy the better brands? |
Youve got to get the better brands at specialty petstores, feed stores, or order online from their websites. Petsmart and Petco dont carry them although someone told me their Petsmart carries Nutro. |
OK, this will sound really dumb..I know what a feed store is but what is a petspecialty store???? |
Ours is Pets Supply Plus. It is like a Petsmart or Petco but they offer better brands like Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul. |
What would I look under in the yellow pages? Is it like a privately owned pet store? instead of a chain. |
Yes it is privately owned. Check feed stores too though thats where I found two brands that I was looking for. Another thing you can do is go on the brands website and put your zipcode into their store locator and they will tell you if its sold near you and where. |
