I have been going through this with Gracie for over a year. She gets horriable break outs ( and even infections as a result). My vet said we could do the allergy testing but she is on hypoallergenic food anyway (Venison and Potato) so all that would do is prove that she is allergic to enviromental allergens and really besides removing all the carpet in my house (we only have it in my basment) and never let her outside what can we do. We use Temaril during the early spring and the fall (When the allergens are the highest) and the medicated bath 2-3 times a week to try to manage...... I know that this is going to be this way for her whole life, the poor thing:( |
Same Here! My Spikey has the same problem. I stopped giving him boiled chicken for a year. Changed his food to Nutro Natural Choice For Sensitive Stomachs. That seemed to work a little but still not a whole lot. Changed our lifestyles such as having an air filter in the apartment and cleaning twice a week. I did noticed that if I bathe him every 4 days, the itching would be less. Right now we've been busy so he gets a bath every 7 days. I'll try the every 4 days again and see how that goes. |

sounds so familiar to my dd - red skin, belly and armpits and neck mostly- she hates the blow dryer so i have to brush her dry in front of a fan. She never has ear infections though - so frustrating keep trying everything |

Coat Handler Products I had sores all over my five year old male Yorkie. Tried antibotics and still had the same problem. Started doing a lot of reading and discovered that residue from shampoos and conditioners build up on the skin and can cause problems such as you describe. I started using Coat Handler products....Shampoo and Conditioners (15 to 1) and Skin Works, another colorless and odorless product by the makers of Coat Handler products and my problem is almost gone. The help line recommends that you bath your dog once a week with the shampoo and conditioner (they contain no harmful ingredients.....no oils, silcone, etc. that can cause residue to build up) and then apply Skin Works three times a day to the affected areas. That Skin Works is a wonderful product. I saw improvement immediately. Good Luck!! Jad:) |
Switching to NB duck and potato was a good call. everyone here has offered excellent advise. To see a change in her itching you really need to stick to this diet only. The only thing she eats is this food. No treats, no people food, nothing. As a treat you can give her a piece of kibble. Don't be discouraged if you don't seem results soon. It can take up to 3 months to see anything significant. good luck. i hope she stops itching soon. |
Dietary changes might do the trick! Personally, I raw feed my dogs way before the food scare. One of the reasons was to avoid high vet costs, second was because of the high percentages of diseases that are diet related, but let me get off my soap box:rolleyes: . As a researchaholic, I came across Nyzmes.com which I found to be very informative. The before and after pictures are AMAZING! |
There is some stuff called...Sulfadine, Sulfodene, not sure how to spell it...but it is suppose to be really good for bad skin conditions! Good luck! |

Mvd to complicate things more she is mvd so duck is high in protein along with lamb, beef and pork :( so still searching |
