Itchy Skin Hello my 9 week old Yorkie is scratching her body constantly. I bath her once a week and am wondering how to stop her scratching herself.I bathe her with Johnsons baby shampoo is there something else I can use? I dont have other pets and she is not an outdoor dog. |
hey!! a few things you might want to try.. first DEFINITLY use a dog shampoo... the ph balance in their fur and skin is much different from humans... try a shampoo with oatmeal in it... usually helps.. also check that her food doens't have corn in it... a usual suspect for an itchy pup! |
Thank you very much. I will change her shampoo and look at her food. I appreciate your help on this! |
not a problem.. if both those things don't work... ask me again... i have tons of ideas... we have been battling dry skin for about 9 months now  |
Something we found useful was that our breeder told us to use 3-4 drops of neutrogena bath oil in a large glass of water for the final rinse. don't rinse it out. hope this helps. |

Alot of people, including myself, have had fabulous success with Petzlife Cranberry Fields Shampoo & Conditioner. It contains Cranberry Seed extract which has 100 times the healing power of Vitamin E. You can get it at www.beyondspoiled.com. A member of YT owns that online store and she ships out super fast. You should get it in max 2 days. You also need to check her food to see if it contains corn. If it doesn't a ton of dogs are also allergic to soy, milk, gluten (wheat, rye, barley), and beef. If the food you are feeding her contains any of these products, I would suggest switching. |
What ever you decide to use, make sure you rinse and rinse and rinse again. Leaving even a "smidgin" of soap in the coat can cause major itching. Winter months are terrible for us and our dogs skin. I don't give them a bath but every two to three weeks during the winter months and I use #1 All Systems Pure Lanolin. You just mix two tablespoons with two tablespoons #1 All Systems Super-Rich Protein Lotion Conditioner, and dilute with one quart warm water, mixing well. It's a great product! |
