When to start teeth brushing? What is a good age to start teeth brushing and how exactly do you do it? |

I started mine right when I got them (about 10 weeks). I just put a little of that flavored dog toothpaste on a brush and let them chew on it at first and after a couple times they let me actually brush their teeth. Now they really look forward to it and think they're getting a treat:) |
How often should you brush? |
I feed mine hard kibble so I brush their teeth once or twice a week. If you feed soft food you should do it more often. |

You can never get a pup use to brushing too early. It is a huge benefit to start brushing early on and getting them to obediently open their mouth for you for any reason. I agree if you are feeding dry kibble brushing once or twice a week should be fine, if feeding wet food, you may want to brush every day or every other day. Just make sure when you start brushing that you use a toothpaste made for dogs. Human toothpaste can upset their stomach. Also, if you search around on the net, you may find a toothbrush that has three double rows of angled bristles, two for the top of the tooth, two for the inside of the tooth, and two for the outside of the tooth. I have one of these, and I love it. Makes brushing a breeze! |
