Is this normal? | If you don't want that to be a habit, I'd say try to keep the food in the bowl. We started to do that to our Mini Schnauzer when we first got her in fact we'd play a game with her where we'd slide a nugget across the floor and she'd chase after it and ate it and thought it was the best thing ever. Well we got lazy and started to put her food on the floor since it was easier for her to access, now that she's older that is only how she'll eat it. If we put her food in a bowl she will go dump it with her nose all over the floor and eat it like that. I use to think it was cute now it's annoying because of the crumbs all over the floor and it's just messy and the yorkies try to eat it(she's on a special diet). I'm slowly trying to get her to go back and eat out of the bowl. If she tries to dump her food, I'll take it away scoop up any of the fallen pieces and tell her no and won't give it back to her for 5-10 min. It's a slow process but she's learning.
My yorkies love to be hand fed...in fact to the point where Pochi won't eat unless I feed it to him by hand. He can get so lazy even with dog treats, he won't eat them unless I break it up into bite sized pieces for him(which is my fault since I started doing that for him and so does everyone else in the family). I'm trying to stop doing that for him since he's been getting such bad tartar build up on his teeth and they say have him chew on a greenie or such and of course he wouldn't do that unless l broke it up for him. Now that we have 2 other yorks running around competing for treats he more often will break up his own treats himself.
Look at how we cater to our babies. hehe |
