* Calling all RAW Food Diet Members * I will be doing lots of research on the RAW food diet approach over the next couple of months to determine if I am going to try this with Roxy and TJ. It seems very interesting to me. Right now I cook for TJ and Roxy and I add supplements as well. I have 3 really important questions: 1. Do any of you have Poop Eaters (while on the RAW food diet)??? 2. TJ and Roxy love Chicken Jerkey treats, can you still give them this? 3. Can you still give them Merrick's Flossies (curly bully sticks)??? THANKS! |
I never had any trouble with poop eating while mine were on raw. Due to some circumstances they are now on kibble and I was shocked just this week that now they seem to have started this. Disgusting! I may be switching back to raw sooner than I planned. I don't think there is any problem with the flossies or jerky treats on this diet. Just make sure they are naturally without a lot of additives. |
I am not sure yet if I am going to try this RAW food diet or not yet. I do cook for them and only give them the best - no crap what so ever! But I have really had enough of the poop eating. I am at my wits end with this battle. They have been poop eaters from day one. May 07 it will 2 years of this disgusting habit. I have tried EVERYTHING!!! While, it has gotten better, but not gone completely, it is still an everyday occurance, and I am very tired of this habit! So, I really would like to hear if anyone still has a poop eater on the RAW diet? |
I feed raw as the evening meal and kibble in the morning. Yes, one does eat poop. Yes, they can still have the jerky |
OH NO!!! Still eating poop??? Bummer, I thought maybe this would be the answer :( :( :( |
We never had a problem with that but I think you may see some changes if you do switch. We feed Nature's Variety raw and it contains Alfalfa sprouts which is what one member here says helped her dogs quit that habit so maybe that helps by being in this food too. I've seen some wonderful changes in Jo's coat since we switched them to raw, he's not as oily as he was before so he doesn't need a bath mid week and it appears that his hair has started to grow again...it seemed to stop for a while...and it's laying down better on the top of his head...it used to stand straight up in the air  There is also no build up on their teeth, no bad breath and no messy poops. I do still put a bowl of dry food down for them but they hardly ever eat any and I think the fruit and veggie snacks help clean their teeth. Good luck with your decision! |

I do feed them fresh Alfalfa sprouts mixed in with their food now - does nothing for them to stop eating poop though...:( |

But now that I have changed back to kibble one of those that I had previously and my new puppy (that we have had for over a month) just alll of a sudden are finding that they like to "recycle". I think it may have to do with the puppy food which I finally got her to eat, I think I will switch the puppy back to the adult food, they didn't "recycle" when she was on that. |
I tried the raw for a few days. She seemed to like it alright, but I really did not like feeding that way. We've never had the poop eating problem, so I don't know what to tell you with that. |
ok maybe i'm a little slow but this is the first i'm hearing about this RAW food diet. Could someone please tell me what its all about or maybe provide a link to where i could learn about it...thanks a bunch :D |

I have my girls on Natures Variety Raw, it is working for us for now, my vet approves of it, but says she doesn't see good results long term for smaller breed dogs. I am doing this to get some weight on my 7 mo old for right now and they both really like it. My 22 mo old has developed some food allergies, as soon as our pet insurance kicks in we will be doing allergy testing. Our vet used to sell Royal Canin in her practice but has stop selling it because of all the problems she saw in her animal patients. Here is a link: http://www.naturesvariety.com/ My advice to you is to do research and figure out what works best for you and your dog. |
I feed raw, not natures variety, but totally raw. Bella occasionally ate poop before, now she never does. I still give her bully sticks and flossies, but usually not treats....only at bath time:D The poop that comes with totally raw, or prey model, usually turns white and crumbles by the next day. The nutruients are all used...so nothing to recycle. Good luck! Here are some links for those interested.. http://rawfed.com/myths/ http://www.skylarzack.com/rawfeeding.htm http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/r...feeding%2Fjoin |
I've been feeding prey model RAW for four years. Neither of mine eat their own poop; but, Abigail LOVES cat poo!!?? I canNOT understand this disgusting habit; but, I understand from other RAW feeders that some do and some don't have a taste for it. I have confidence in the RAW, prey model diet for canines, and don't plan to ever feed another pet kibble. |
Lilly goes after cat poop (who eat kibble cat food, they refuse to switch to raw), but leaves hers and Charlie's alone. |
