Just wanted to add my thanks to you, dwerten. This is excellent information and I am going to print it out. Tootsy is highly allergic. So far I have found her allergic to lamb, fish, corn and tea tree oil shampoos. I also do not use flea treatments. I feel they are just too toxic for little dogs. I bath her once or twice a week and brush and fine comb her hair every day. She has some bumps near her tail which she has had for months. The vet said it must be a flea allergy, but she does not have fleas. The vet said that you don't always see fleas, but I disagree, as I am very vigilant about checking her skin and hair and I am sure I would find one if they were there. I am going to use a natural flea repellent spray this summer and will see how it goes. I like to keep a cool top on her in summer to protect her from insects and grass seeds, but when I take her for a walk, so many people stop me and say that she should not be wearing clothes in summer. I explain why she is wearing the top, but they remain unconvinced. It drives me crazy!!! The people in the UK are generally anti dressing up dogs for any reason and like to make their feeling known. You probably heard that our RSPCA said that they would prosecute owners who dressed their dogs in clothing that resembled human clothing. Honestly, it really makes me mad - there are more important things to be prosecuting, for heavens sake.

I hope it helps your baby and you figure out some things that may be going on. Allergies are not fun and it is the worst thing i have dealth with and most frustrating thing :(

the bumps by the tail could be related to staph did the vet do a skin scraping and has she had a 6 panel thyroid to rule out hypothyroid?

yes, dwerten, thanks for the information on the oatmeal shampoo. I had ordered the Yorkie Shine shampoo and conditioner but switched to an oatmeal shampoo because my Maddie seemed to be scratching at her neck/ear area more than usual. I thought oatmeal shampoo would be the best to use!!!!! dumb me! :p

it can work for some dogs but not all so just want people to know if they have a reaction to it not to be surprised since most vets and pet stores recommend oatmeal shampoos for allergy dogs

oh no i have been called that on here lol by some but I do not feel that people who try to help other people are know it alls they are just people who care about other people and dogs enough to help. No one knows everything we can all learn from one another and help each other as we each have different experiences in life we can share whether that be with our dogs or our personal experiences.

I happen to be one of those that cares and willing to help so if that means being called a know it all then so be it:)

My girl is allergic to the flea drops something horrible, she gets all red and itches like crazy. I would never use them on any of my babies again, I would rather give them a pill.

I am trying to find a new food. Zoey has always had problems with greasy skin and itching. The vet recommended a Kangaroo and Oat food along with bathing with Douxo Shampoo. The shampoo is really good and I like it a lot. She wasn't real fond of the food, and I don't think it was a good quality. I started giving her the california natural lamb and rice and we are back to greasy and itchy. Then I tried the grain free and it isn't helping. She does not like the Kangaroo and Oats, does anyone have any suggestions for a good food?

you are in california and if you did a 12 week elimination diet then most likely environmental - have you tried zyrtec. If not ask the vet for doseage. This allergy season is going to be bad this year our derm said due to all the rain. I use duoxo chlorhexedine shampoo too and it is good when they have staph infections but not good to use all the time as can be drying.

Has your vet done the 6 panel thyroid test as greasy skin can be related to hypothyroid as my yorkie is hypothyroid as well and many times hypothyroid and allergies go hand in hand as both are autoimmune disease. I would recommend doing that if you have not done it already

You can try venison and sweet potato by natural balance for 12 weeks - no other foods or treats -NOTHING as you need to rule out food and if you jump around too much and do not do a complete 12 week with a novel protein and novel carb you will run out of proteins to do a true elimination diet and that will be a prob - it happened to me and why dd had to do pinto bean and potato elimination diet

yes, she was on the kangaroo and oats for 12+ weeks. The vet ran all the tests, everything fine. She was doing great, but she did not like the food. So the Vet said to slowly switch and see.....well she is starting to get greasy and itchy again, noticeably greasy with this food. Oh, she snores or is weezy also.

lamb is higher in fat so may be why - are you feeding anything else ? Also that food has alot more ingredients I believe and it has rice in it as opposed to oats.
