Dog Food vs People/Human Food I know most vets and breeders say "people food" is a big no no. What did pets eat before dog food was made? I have a friend who is a breeder and she swears by raw meat, uncooked bones and veggies  |
When I was growing up my dog used to bones from the butcher shop, they were free then so it seemed like everyone's dogs had them. I think it was fine because he ate them outside. I would not want raw meat or bone marrow dragged all over my house and my carpets. What about disease that come from raw meat and uncleaned surfaces? Maybe someone can tell me if this is valid concern. We have given our dog cooked or boiled bones. Mya does not know what people food is all about and we would like to keep her that way because I like dogs that don't beg or whine for food. Our dog Comic knows he is not allowed to beg so he sits by the person with his back turned to them and peeks over his shoulders now and then. |
I can't remember where, but I read bones that have been boiled/cooked can splinter and cause choking. I have no idea if that is true or not. |
Yes never give cooked bones ! The diet you are talking about is the BARF diet if you Google Barf diet there is mases of information about why it's good and why it's bad. Personally we tried it and the dogs did look good on it but and for us it was a big but we had 3 dogs at the time and when they ate barf was the only time we had fights over food. They bones and raw meat were obviously a high value food worth fighting over  |
